Fanbelt noise from that year Grand Cherokee usually indicates a bad idler pulley. There are two of them and they should both be changed at the same time. Have them checked out.
On some Jeeps the tension is held by the alternator adjustment and there may be no tensioner pulley. See if the alternator bolts into an adjustable arm mount. If so - loosen the alternator and rotate it to release the tension.
My moms fan switch went on her 01 gr cherokee and had the whole fan and relay replace, when is doesn't come on the fan motor is bad and won't regulate power, so the mechanic says, Please rate is thanx
its almost always the relay..ther is a recall for that coling fan check with your local dealer with your vin to see if it applies to your truck... the relay is located under the right headlight under the bumper.... the best way to get to it is remove the right headlight by taking ou the long bolt on the top and then pry it free with a prybar it has three clips behind it.. once off you can see the relay inthe opening under the light area.. use a hole saw or jig saw to remove the plastic that is over it .. then you will see its held on by 2 screws 8mm and the one connector.. the relay should have a blue label on it...
