sounds like a broken shift cable. (the connection between the shifter and the gearbox) common symptoms are the shifter move easier than normal.and does not move to any gears (not even park or neutral).
chances are the shift cable is broke at the transmission, I drilled the rod out of the shift lever and ran a shoulder bolt through the shift lever and cable end and finished up with a lock nut.
Ok, here is what you do, slide under vehicle, locate shift lever on side of transmission rotate counter-clockwise two clicks, pop shifter on, hop back inside turn key on depress brake pedal and check shifter, if it falls off again replace cable assembly they do not sell individual bushings, and get cable from dealer.
Does it sound like it is in neutral when you have it in gear? If so, your linkeage from shifter to transmission needs to be adjusted. If you follow the cable, you should see an adjustment for it. Turn to right to tighten it and left to loosen it.
If it tries to move but doesn't, it may be e-brake stuck. Most likely linkeage needs adjustment or vacuum line came of tranny.
