There should be a diagram under the hood showing the routing of the serpentine belt. If not...go to Autozone and establish a free account (Email required.) After you have an account set up click on (Add A Vehicle) top of page. Select your choices under the drop down boxes and then go to "Repair help" where you will tips and pictures on all you need to know.

try undoing your battery for a few minutes. if that doesnt work look in your cars manual if you have one under radio and it should tell you. if nothing else call your dealer and ask their service dept. if they dont know ask for a technician or call a local repair shop they are pretty knowledgeable.

"Free" will be a problem. The best place to find a "free Owner's Manual" is to copy one from another Passat owner. You can purchase copies of the owner's manual from a variety of on-line sources, and even on eBay. Chances are that you are not the original owner, otherwise VW of America may be able to help. Unlike General Motors, VW does not offer downloadable copies of their Owner's Manuals from the VW Owners website.
