So, to add to the MANY folks complaining that the Durango doesn't go into gear, stutters, fails to accelerate, etc. I would also mention the problem plaguing my personal P.O.S. Durango - since my transmission problems (read - failure to shift + accelerate) began, I can not get the car into park - to park requires the emergency brake. This is not to say the gear doesn't work - it actually might, however, when attempting to shift into park - it won't - you just can't get there from here, short of stuffing my shifter into the engine compartment. There seems to be some misalignment of the shifter with the arrow that points to the gear (ya know Park/neutral/drive etc). You actually never know WHAT gear you're in, unless you're in neutral, which is currently the ONLY way to start the car, as it won't go into park. To start the car currently, you have to turn the key, put it into neutral and then start. If anyone has an idea of the problem, would appreciate your experience...

Its sounds like the shift lever is loose at the trans, kick down lever at the same place might be your other issues. Left side of trans just above the pan is the location

What could cause the car to stutter when under load going up hill.

It sounds to me like a passing gear issue. Or even and Over Drive issue. Try this to find out. When you put the car in gear, instead of O/D, try regular drive. If you have a push button O/D then deactivate it. If you only have Drive, then try shifting into 3. Run the car up to the same speeds you were having problems with. If you don't have the issues with the higher RPM's then it is an Overdrive/Highway gear issue. If it still stutters, then it could be a fuel delivery issue. Good luck.

While merging onto the highway when my car hit 3 and 4th gear the engine seemed to "stutter/misfire" during harder acceleration. Check engine light also flashed briefly during hard acceleration. Dur

Could be a transmission problem or something as simple as bad spark plugs.
The engine is under the most load when RPM is low and you are trying to accelerate, such as when it upshifts.
You should have the computer checked for trouble codes and hopefully that will point you in the right direction to test.
If the spark plugs have more than 50,000 miles of wear you might start with replacing them.

Stuttering in idele and acceleration

Has the fuel tank been low lately? How cold where you are? Add 2 bottles of fuel "Heat" to the gas tank, and be sure to fill up...and keep fuel level above 1/4. Hope this helps.

Stopping at red light the car starts to stutter as I accelerate

Your confusing MAP with a MAF sensor . You can not clean a MAP sensor .
manifold absolute pressure sensor (MAP sensor )
mass air flow sensor MAF you can clean .

admissions = emissions !
accelerate again and it starts to stutter. Try the TPS - throttle position sensor .

Ford fusion warning EAC FAIL

More than likely a TPS intermitant failure. Check for DTC's. The EAC refers to Electronic Acceleration Circuit. This could be the pedal sensor or a short in the circuit. More than likely it is the TPS, but GET CODES FIRST. Don't just throw parts at your Fusion.
