Where is the starter motor on a vw beetle and how do you get to it

The solenoid is the lump on top of the starter motor.

check the solenoid on the starter motor. Have the starter bench tested

The blower motor location on a 2001 VW Beetle 1.8 Turbo - Right Hand Drive (RHD) vehicle

Then remove the electrical starter motor out from the engine, and repair it by replacing the engaging coil & electrical brushes (if necessary).

The starter is at the front of motor bottom of car directly behind radiator. You will need to remove the skid plate and go about 12 inches back from the bumper while under the car. The starter is a cylinder shaped and mounts to the bottom of the block in front of the oil pan.

hit your starter motor with mallet or softer with hammer, sounds like dog leg sticking

sounds like the starter solenoid is bad.
