2000 Dodge G/Caravan running rough. I recently did timing chain and oil pump (problem was present before I did this, just thought it was good timing). It runs semi okay when at idle, but when you throttle it, it sounds rough. I replaced the plugs, coil so far. I took the hose off the phlem (air intake near throttle) and it seemed to smooth out. I followed hose back to the purge canister, thinking this may be it? I have read could be gas cap(?) or a vac leak on one of the hoses. I will check hoses but just want to see if I am on the right track. Thanks, Tom

Code 12 just saying battery has been disconnected or run down low recently. 32 is related to loss of power light which shouldn't be a problem. I'd concentrate first on code 17- coolant sensor. Changing that may cure your problem, but if not, a good place to start. Sensor may be telling ECM that engine is already warm, thus too lean of a mixture etc.

My first questions would be - is the check engine light on and is it running rough ?
The most common reason for gasoline in the oil is a leaking fuel injector or faulty fuel pressure regulator.

It is located behind the crank pulley. You will need to remove the timing chain, crank pulley and sump pan to access it properly.

it is inside the timing cover..the water pump is driven by the timing chain on these, and is a real bear to fix

Sounds like there is a problem with the Torque converter in the transmission or Transmission itself. When you put it in gear it should initially go into neutral but occasionally the transmission will stick part way in gear and partially in neutral putting a load on the motor. It is not enough of a load to get the vehicle moving but it is enough to stall the motor. This could be a simple clutch adjustment in the Automatic clutch to a PCV valve issue to a need to rebuild the whole transmission because of a problem with the control body or transmission pump itself. Sorry for the bad news.

Good morning! The water pump on this model is not run by the timing belt. The 3.3 liter engine uses a timing chain. Hope you find this information useful!

Try checking relays in the fuse box under the hood. If all checks out ok, check timing belt/chain.

Turns out it was the water pump. The plastic impeller on the inside had broken in half- split almost right down the middle. there was just enough of the impeller remaining to attach to the shaft and pump water. Apparently, it was pumping enough to keep the temp under control. So, I never noticed it overheating. The piece that had broken off had gotten lodged in a recessed area inside the pump housing. The ticking noise was being generated as the intact half of the impeller rotated and hit the broken off half.

I narrowed down the problem by removing the belt and cranking the engine temporarily. With the belt off and the pump not turning, the sound was gone. I could spin the pump pulley by hand and faintly hear the noise.

A new pump cost me $35 and took about two and a half hours to replace.

The next time you do an oil change, put a liter of tranny fluid in with the oil BEFORE you change it. Let it run for an hour or two.The tranny fluid will clean out the gunk that causes your lifters to stick.Now do your oil change. Do this each time you change your oil, only use a 1/2 liter each time. You will be amazed at the difference, I was.
