I have a 96 chevy silverado with 5.0 vortec and 5 speed trans. It was running fine and i started to notice sometimes when driving it would lurch forward at a cruising speed. Theres no speed or rpm that it does it at and no lights are dimming like its a power loss. when it starts jerking forward if i give it gas it takes off with no problem. its gotten worse over the last few days and tonight it wasnt wanting to take off from a stop without shaking the whole truck. can anybody point me in the right direction?

I don't know. But I do know that any well run auto parts yard has interchange books for exactly this kind of question. Basically, any standard transmission can be made to work if you are willing to spend enough time and money. It is usually best and cheapest to stay with the factory trans.

I own a 96 chevy k1500 5.7 l vortec and have a no 5 cyl misfire

It could be a faulty fuel injector, try running a fuel injector cleaner through your fuel system. At worst the poppet nozzle has gone bad and will need to be replaced, you can buy the poppet nozzle it self individually at Auto Zone or buy upgrade MFI system which is much better and less pron to fuel leaking room a cracked poppet line or nozzle which will cause what you have described.

Hard to start chevy 350 vortec

You will need to do a fuel pump pressure leak-down test, the pump must not loose more than 5 PSI overnight, u will need a cheap fuel pressure test guage, the test port is on the fuel supply rail to the injectors on the intake manifold, it looks like a tire valve but metal with a plastic cap on it, u may be able to borrow this guage from Kragen, Autozone or a parts store like them, if not they are very cheap, less than $20 US. Run the engine with the test guage hooked up, turn off the engine and then check it in an hour or so, if it drops more than 5 PSI then u will need to replace the fuel pump in the gas tank. One note make sure the connection for the guage is tight with no leakage or the test is invalid
