  1. Lower the tailgate to the horizontal position.
  2. Disengage the cable on the right and left sides from the striker bolts. To accomplish this, pull up on the middle of the cable assembly while raising the gate to a 45 degree angle, but be careful not to pinch the cable between the gate and bed.
  3. Remove the tailgate from the vehicle by lifting upward on the left side to separate the left hinge assembly, then disengage the right hinge.
To install:
  1. Install the gate to the vehicle by lowering the right hinge assembly into position first, then holding the gate at a 45 degree angle and seating the left hinge assembly.
  2. Engage the left and right cables to the striker bolts.
  3. Verify proper tailgate latching and operation.

How to remove the taillight assembly

With tailgate up u will see two screws (mine are phillips head) .Remove screws and carefully pull as straight out on tail light as you can without turning tail light too far there r two pins which help allign and hold in place on opposite side of screws. U may have to pull with alittle force and then u can get to the light harness :) Mine is also a 2005.

2007 yukon danali rear hatch wont open or close automatically is this a fues or motor issue?

There's a switch between the sunroof switches and the rear seat fold-down switches. That switch deactivates the automatic operation of the tailgate. I hit mine inadvertently and didn't figure it out for a week. The dealer didn't know either.

I have a 1998 GMC Sierra CK1500, The tailgate will open.

Mine did that to. I sprayed Rust blaster all around the pivot points inside the handle which freed up the rod that was binding

My tailgate won't open any more?

you can usually access the operation handle for the tailgate through a panel located on the bed side of the gate, should be screws around the panel that you can see while inside the bed

I have a 96 gmc yukon, the tailgate part will not open

you more then likely have some linkage that is broke or unhooked. you should be able to access this by removing interior trim panel.should be able to pick up parts at a salvage yard.

Tailgate is stuck and will not open

Very common problem. Usually the rods get bent form pulling ******* the handle to open it. If you look behing the handle you will see the two rods running towards the left and right side of the tailgate. If you can use a pliers and squeeze the towards each other you can open it. When you get it open, use some penetrating oil on the latches on the right and left side. Usually just have some dirt in them and they stick.
