How to change valve cover gasket and thermostat on 1992 ES300

Nothing really - but I would use a good grade of gasket sealer when putting back together. Also remember valve covers only need about 20 ft-lbs of torque. Don't over do it.

To replace the valve cover gasket, you have to:
1) Remove spark plug wires
2) Remove spark plugs
3) Remove ground cable, and all pcv lines and hoses
4) remove 4,10mm nuts holding the valve cover on
5) remove valvecover, and replace old gasket

I think you can have a head gasket leak and not get coolant in your oil. You may be getting enough in there that it's causing that cylinder to not fire and give a rough idle.

Take it back to where they changed the head gaskets and let them fix it properly.

Might not be a hot enough thermostat or make sure there is enough vacuum in the vacuum-hoses. The heater controls might not be getting enough vacuum to operate the flaps inside the heater compartment where the heater-core is. Or something wasn't hooked up right when the head-gaskets were done.

Take the valve cover bolts off then get the new gasket on or use permatex gasket glue than put it back together

You'll have to take the valve cover off again. There must be a piece of old gasket still under there somewhere, or your gasket isn't seated properly. Make sure the head is completely clean, and the valve cover.

a new valve cover gasket and o-rings around the wells should have cured this...did you clean the old o-rings off the valve cover completely before installing new ones? this is a common problem with these models.....i would re-check my gaskets and mateing surfaces. valve cover gaskets and spark plug well o-rings are relatively low cost. the spark plug is tight, correct? write back with an update!

The thermostat is located at the end of the upper radiator hose. Were the hose connects to the top of the engine on the passenger side of the valve cover on the engine. I believe the housing takes a 12mm socket. Don't for get to get a new gasket for the thermostat housing, how thermostats come with the gasket. I also recommend changing your radiator pressure cap 13psi.
