If it is getting fuel and spark then make sure your ground cable is getting a good ground to the motor and the frame to the battery.

it is getting fuel to fuel rail .but what does it mean if no spark at plug wire?

  • Anonymous Aug 05, 2010

what engine do you have. It may have a bad crank sensor which is mounted on the bell housing.Have seen alot of the jeeps with this problem.

SOURCE: diagram to remove and install a fuel pump on 1999 jeep grand cherokee laredo

I apologize for not being able to provide a diagram, and it's been a while since I've replaced a fuel pump in a Jeep like yours, however the fuel pump for that vehicle is located within the fuel tank. You will typically disconnect power from the battery, relieve the pressure from the fuel rail to the injectors. In most cases the test port on the fuel rail has a schrader valve "valve core" like a tire valve, which utilizing a rag to absorb excess fuel you can depress to relieve pressure. You will then have to detach the fuel filler tube and vent tube at the filler neck. With a floor jack supporting the tank ,there should be a couple of bolts holding either two straps around the tank or a large cover that covers and supports the tank itself ,that will need removal. Once you have removed these and you should be able to access the top of the tank. Bear in mind you don't put the fuel pump/sending unit wiring harness or the fuel and vent tubing under too much strain as you lower the tank. you should have enough room to disconnect this wiring and fuel tubing. the tubing will probably have a quick disconnect setup where it attaches to the pump assembly. Once you have the tank on the ground take a suitable (non sparking drift and hammer) to tap the retaining ring that holds the pump in the tank, around the openig to release it. The pump assembly will be spring loaded and the top may pop up out of the tank. Just be sure to protect yourself from any fuel that might spray up. To reinstall can be a slight chore sometimes, as the assembly is spring loaded. It usually goes in with just a slight amount of effort though. Remember to replace the fuel sock on the pump and o-ring seal around the top of the opening. You can purchase just the electric pump, but I'd recommend replacing the whole fuel pump assembly. It will cost more in parts, but longer part warranty and lesser chance of further damaging the assembly are the benefits. Naturally installation is the reverse of removal. I'd recommend a new fuel filter as well, or shortly thereafter. Chrysler factory replacement units recommend draining all the old fuel from the tank and replacing with new fuel (never done that, and with the price of gas, probably won't start) I have never seen an adverse effect from not doing so. I hope this posting has helped.

I have a 99 jeep grand Cherokee Laredo it cranks but it wont start

Check for spark at plugs, fuel pressure key on/engine off, and last compression test. If no spark, check all fuses then ignition module/coil. If no fuel pressure, check fuses, relay and listen for pump noise for two seconds or so after key on. If low compression, check timing belt (if any).

Are their any other relays or fuses for the fuel pump in a 1994 jeep grand cherokee laredo

there is one fuse and relay for the fuel pump. if these are good and the pump is not running try hitting the fuel tank with someone trying to start car, if it starts the pump is no good and needs replacing. it could be a bad connection for the pump. pumps are common problem.

I cant find the obd plug in on my 94 jeep grand cherokee laredo and my jeep will turn over but is hard to start what would cause this?

It does not have an obd11 connector, it's too old. The extended crank time could be a couple of things though. I've seen problems with fuel pumps, fuel pump relays and crankshaft sensors. How many miles on it? Has the fuel pump or filter been changed before?

2000 Jeep Grand cherokee Laredo wont start. Engine turn over . No noise from fuel pump with ignition on. Replaced fuel pump and filter.Turn ignition on- pump did not run.Jumped the fuel pump at the pump...

sounds alot the the pcm it controls the fuel pump and ign system but the anti theft would keep it from starting because the key has a transponder in it programmed for that vehicle and that would kill all ign if triggered

Basically, my 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo 4.0L is turning over but doesn't start. I purchased some starting fluid and sprayed it into the carburetor. After that, it starts for a few seconds, but...

Your fuel pump is in the gas tank. Before going there check the relay and all attending fuses as well as the fuel filter (on top of pump/sending unit)
If you can't hear the pump running when you first turn the key on, likely it is electrical. If you can, then could be the filter. There are other reasons for your problem but start with the easier common stuff.
