We have no wiring diagrams so I suggest you ask the dealer for a detailed cost breakdown to see why they want such a large amount of money to fix this problem. Seems very high and I am a retired dealer technician.
That light is an indicator that the required miles have been drove and it's time to do an oil change. The light should be reset after every oil change as the computer keeps track of the miles to warn you when it's time again should you forget.
If you want to turn the light off then follow these steps.
Push and hold the trip button and then turn the ignition to on while holding the trip reset button. Keep holding for 10 seconds and the maintenance required light will go offf.
The light comes on every 10,000 miles to remind you to change oil and other required service. There is a procedure to reset the light, do a search on Toyota Maintenance Required light.
I suggest review your 2006 Toyota Corolla Owners Manual (page 5) for details about cluster and warning lights. You have the CE/LE, S, XRS models for the light location.
I am assuming that is the light of "service" only 450 for reaching the limit, and is one advise.
I really hope helped with this; remember rated this help. Good luck.
Our 2006 Corolla has a "Maintenance Required" light in addition to the "Check Engine" one. MR light comes on every 5000 miles telling you to change oil and whatever's in the book. To turn it off,
Set Cluster Display to ODOMETER (not Trip A or Trip B)
Ignition Off
Hold Cluster Display button down
Ignition On, Continue to Hold button down
Odometer will change to "----------" then return to Miles Display
Light goes Out
