My 1999 Chevy Tahoe wont start unless i spray starting fluid into the air intake but once it starts it runs fine, The fuel filter is brand new in it too, if it is the fuel pump how much will it cost me?

For brandon, have you gotten any further on your tahoe? Changed fuel pump, etc? I have a 99 and we have replaced 4 fuel pumps almost every 3mos but they were after market. No sir. Within 2 days of getting fuel at the gas station by my moms my tahoe went from running better than it has since '04 to barely running. Id crank it 4 or 5 times before id get fed up and get out the starting fluid. Someone suggested dry gas. It did nothing. While I was out getting everything tested I bought stp gas treatment in the gray bottle. When I pulled in I had a multiple cylinder misfire, and both my down stream oxygen sensors failing according to the engine code scan tool. I was skeptical when I put the first bottle in. 3 days later no engine light. I filled up at the normal place with high octane added the second bottle. Starts right up.

Now, im not sure it will last but so far so good. Anyway my friends dad has a fleet of work trucks and he told me that he installed 10 in 1 vehicle before he got one that put out the 63 psi. He broke down and went to napa and ordered the OEM fuel pump. I tried recently but was told I had to order it from the dealership. 4 fuel pumps later im sure you don't remember but when you changed the original but on mine the original had a cap with a screen on the center valve. I believe the 99 has a line that connects to the center valve on the fuel pump though. The aftermarket pumps do not have the cap. When I'd fill the tank it would overflow and I'd lose a gallon or 2. I capped it and it seemed to start better right away.

Some other things that have been suggested are clogged catylitic converter. Which was my original problem when I bought the vehicle. It started fine but when I gave it some gas it would stall. Ignition coil is what I think I was told. I read somewhere when you check your spark it should reach about 3 inches and be blue if its its about an inch or yellow its a poor spark.

The thing that amazed me.. I mentioned that my second pump was in pieces when I removed it. I was sure it wasn't the problem. I heard the pump run everytime I turned the key. I couldn't think of anything else to try. Dropped the tank I popped off the or ring and tried to pull out the fuel pump. To my amazement the actual pump was lying in the bottom of the tank.
