I have a 2004 Oldsmobile Alero and the horn has stopped working. I have checked the fuse and it looks good. I pulled the horn off and wired a button from the horn to the battery and found that the horn works fine.....I believe the problem is in the switch in the stearing wheel. I just need to know how to get to that and what am I looking for when I get into the steering wheel?

Usually it is in the center hub of steering wheel and it has to be removed to gain access. Once there you will see the spread out switch and it is possible to just clean the contacts and restore the unit back to operation. I did it with Mazda.

it takes a special puller to remove the steering wheel. the air bag just pops out with a release tool in the release hole on the side of the steering wheel

SOURCE: 2002 Alero defogger

A common thing to fial on these- assumning the grid is ok, and wires are still attched to grid, is the rear def / antenna module. It is behind rt. rear quarter trim panel. The modules burn up, and also melt the connector. the module and connector would need to be replaced.

What would be the cause of a horn not working on a 2002 oldsmobile alero?

loose connection, remove front of steering wheel and check underneath. theres a copper ring, that when you press the horn it should make contact with another copper bit . or you need a new horn (where the sound actually comes out), or the 2 wires that go into the actual horn have come loose. you can find the actual horn usually by looking under the front of the car.

Horn not working

Go to your horn and check the voltage there with a multimeter. You should get battery volts when the horn button is pressed. If you get voltage some cars have horn relays that can be changed easily.

Where is the horn fuse 2004 olds alero?

The horn relay is in the fuse/relay box under the hood. There is a round thumb screw on top of the box. Remove it and the relays are listed. The horn is a large rectangle, wiggle it up and out. I think it is listed as # 21.

I have a 2004 Alero. Every time I put another horn on, it gets stuck and won't stop blowing until I beat the pad on the steering wheel, by then the horn and fuse is blown out. How do I fix this problem?

Either by replacing the actual horn switch assembly or the wire that runs down the steering column. Sounds like the switch is bad but somtimes the wires short to groung causing the horn to work. Depending on how hard you beating the steering wheel could tempory fix either problem.

The cigarette lighter doesnt work in my 2004 alero

  • Better check the fuse maybe the fuse is busted. But if the fuse is good visit a good electrician to check the wires.
