Usually when I encounter lifters that are all suddenly noisy it's due to low or no oil pressure, low oil level, or both. Lifters are normally filled with pressurized engine oil which keeps them slightly expanded so they remove all the slack between the camshaft and pushrods so the valve train operates quietly. If the oil pressure is low or lost then the lifters collapse and allow slack between the camshaft and pushrods which then results in the harsh clicking or clacking that you hear. Dirty engine oil can also cause the tiny oil pressure feed holes in the lifter to plug which will also cause noise but usually it's just one or two that will be noisy, not all of them at once. Noisy lifters can be the early warning sign of an impending engine failure due to loss of oil pressure so I would have this checked out as soon as possible. Good luck, hope this helps!
Sounds more likely to be a timing rattle rather then all the lifters at once making noise, if your EGR valve is bad this will happen and if the timing is off it will also do this, I can't buy the theory all 16 hydraulic lifters are noisey unless you over reved it something fierce, or ran it out of oil, or had someone loosen all the rockers.
Happy Motoring!!
