P0172 Fault My car (a 2004 Santa Fe) is giving a P0172 fault. The check engine light is on and when idling sometimes cuts out. Is this an ignition problem or something else? The dealer 'seems to think' its an ignition problem - either coil or ignition leads but cannot trace fault. What could it be?

P0172 is a trouble code that is set when the ECU senses that there may be too much gasoline present in the air-fuel mixture of the engine. A proper air-fuel ratio of about 14.7:1 is vital to obtain maximum engine power and fuel economy

The fuel mixture grows rich and eventually, the code sets. An "over reporting" Mass Air Flow Sensor can be a common cause of a code P0172 and P0175. Essentially, this means that the Air Flow Sensor is telling the computer that much more air is entering the engine than actually is.

SOURCE: ''check engine light'' illuminated, 1004 Hyundai, Santa Fe

If you live in the US, take it to qany Auto Zone store and thy will read the codes off for you, I would suspect any right thinking competitor would do the same, check if you don't have one near by.

Hope this is of some help.

My 2004 hyundai santa fe sport 3.5l 3500cc v6 engine acted like it was seizing up late yesterday and now the engine is shaking so bad when i give it gas it vibrates the whole steering wheel

the tune up needed is probably replacement of the injectors as most problems as you describe comes from bad injectors
have the fault codes read to check for failing , crank ,cam position sensors or other sensors that affect performance
