The TCS gets it's signals from the ABS, so if the ABS detects a problem it'll automatically shut off the TCS. The ABS problem can be a bad wheel speed sensor or corrosion on the "tone" wheel. Get the trouble codes read so you'll know which wheel is causing the problem. The knocking is the ABS system working as if you're going into a skid, so the computer is getting a bad signal.
