This is probably due to a problem with the swirl flap actuator arm - if you remove the top of the engine cover (the plastic bit) and look at the top, left front of the engine, do you see a plastic arm (approx 70 - 100 mm long) disconnected?
timing belt at 105000 miles, transmission service when the car tells you. it will say service trans. side note only have trans serviced at volvo dealer. no one else can rest trans to the new fluid. belive me it really matters
With all due respect, you clearly lack the skills or knowledge to diagnose and fix this yourself or you would not be asking here.
Just do what the message is telling you and get the vehicle to a repair garage promptly, preferably a Volvo main dealer. The longer you delay, the bigger the final repair bill as this won't fix itself.
you should take to the dealer the can properly diagnose and repair with proper parts.may just be due for service.
the transmissions on that model use very specific fluids in each unit.so generic oils will not due.
furthermore the cost of replacement for the trans is very high in just labor alone. not trying to scare you or promote a dealer just saying it needs factory attension with factory tools
There's been a lot of issues with that transmission. There's well over 200 some cases of failed transmissions. http://www.carsurvey.org/reviews/volvo/xc90/r69842/comments/
sorry but this is a very common problem and from now on change that fluid every 30k /we do and we dont have these problems ,that is the cold hard facts even if they told you it didnt need serviced
