Losting coolant i have a cadillac deville 2000 and i am lossing cooling. do not see any leaks. i had the radiator and hose replace also a new themastat but still lossing coolant.

Hi their,here's a link on replacing your thermostat,it doesn't really show it we'll,just follow the top hose from the radiator,that's where the thermostat is,easy to install.You don't need to drain all of the coolant,just a third would do,be careful cause the coolant could kill your pet if they were to drink it. REPLACE THE THERMOSTAT AND RADIATOR PRESSURE CAP.IF COOLANT LOW, ADD MORE COOLANT THROUGH COOLANT OVERFLOW UNTIL COOLANT LEVEL IN THE COOLANT OVERFLOW STAY AT FULL COLD MARK.REASON POUR COOLANT THROUGH COOLANT OVERFLOW MOST GM CARS DONT HAVE RADIATOR CAP.WHEN YOU GET COOLANT LEVEL OKAY, CRANK CAR LET IT IDLE UNTIL ENGINE GET HOT BUILD UP PRESSURE THEN TURN OFF CAR.CHECK FOR COOLANTS LEAKS AT THE RADIATOR HOSES,CHECK FOR LEAKS AT THE RADIATOR, CHECK FOR LEAKS AT WATER PUMP WEEP HOLE IF YOU SEE COOLANT LEAKING FROM WEEP HOLE REPLACE WATER PUMP. IF CAR OVERHEATING WHILE IDLING YOUR COOLING FANS NOT WORKING CHECK COOLING FANS FUSE AND RELAYS.IF FUSE AND RELAYS OKAY THE ENGINECOOLANT TEMPERATURE SENSOR BAD.

you have damage in heater cor system you can cancel it by pass two hose gose to cabine temporary to avoid overheat your engine ,then you have to replace heater cor down dashboard

The thermostat in the northstar engine is located at the bottom radiator hose (unlike most conventional cooling systems), the hose connects into the housing where you will also find the water pump.
Remove the hose from the housing,then remove the two bolts on the flange,the thermostat can then be pulled out.
Take note of the orientation of the thermostat as you remove it.
Don't forget the new gasket, you may have to order this separately.

check condition of radiator,radiator & heater hoses,look for spots wet w/ coolant.look more or less straight up above where coolant puddles on ground.engine block is equipped w/'freeze plugs' that sometimes corrode & leak.washing suspected area of leak with an engine degreaser product may aid in locating source of leak.

A head gasket leak is usually indicated (among other things) by continous overheating of the motor, and subsequent loss of coolant.
It can also be indicated by the presence of engine combustion gas bubbles in the coolant resevoir.
Ensure the coolant system has no external leaks, such as faulty hose/s, radiator etc.

Ensure motor tune or other motor mechanical condition is not the cause of overheating.
I assume the motor is actually running hot.

Check cooling fans are operating ok (as necessary when car warms up):- if not check
1) fuse,
2) relay operation,
3) heat sensor switch.

Check/replace the thermostat,
Check the coolant pressure cap is serviceable & of correct rating,
Ensure cooling system is correctly filled, bleed off any airlocks as necessary when re-filling,
Ensure radiator hose on suction side of waterpump is not collapsing at engine revs above idle (due softening),
If the motor has been severely overheated, the head gasket could be blown - look for combustion gas bubbles in the coolant resevoir.

First, provided their are no visible coolant leaks and/or loss of coolant with no signs of leaks, I would thoroughly flush cooling system and replace coolant, then check and/or replace thermostat (you can place thermostat in boiling water to check for proper function), if you have tried these 2 steps and still are experiencing overheating you may need to replace your water pump which can be a tricky job if you're unfamiliar and try to do it yourself, however, I could walk you through it if necessary. Also visually check your radiator hoses for bulges, wear ,etc along with heater hoses etc. You may want to also check radiator fins to see if they are dirty/obstructed and clean if necessary. Check the radiator, hoses, and water pump for leaks. If you don't see any coolant loss, the problem is most likely a faulty thermostat. Hope this helped and best wishes.
