My trans is stuck in second gear. Is that what they call "limp mode"? Does this mean i have serious trans problems?
My 2002 t&c limp mode was the solenoid module that controls the shifting. Mechanic wanted 1000$
part was about $150. Took about 20 minutes to replace right in front below battery. Very convenient location. One thing to watch for is overtightening the wiring plug screw. It will strip the housing and spin making impossible to remove. Screw just enough to seat the connectors. Hardest part was cleaning the old gasket material. Such a relief having gears again...lol. I also changed the transmission filter...pan gasket and fluid to check for damage from the limp mode as I drove it over a year like that. No apparent damage going on over 5 years & 60K.
The town and country vans are know for transmission problems and it would not be stuck in 2nd gear if it was in limp mode. Limp mode typically controls the engine. I have seen people do a transmission flush/filter and add lucas to temporary fix the problem. There is also a good chance that the transmission has a solenoid problem preventing it from shifting into any other gears but second. Hope this helps!
Hello:
I do have a similar problem with a 2005 Chrysler Town
only reverse and 2nd gear is exactly what Limp mode is on Chrysler products.
I had 2nd gear limp mode on my 2002 Chrysler Town and country.
I changed my TCM, done!
