Are the brake master cylinder and the clutch slave cylinder interconnect in some way? I'm told that the slave cylinder get its fluid from the master cylinder.

The brake system and the clutch master cylinder have the same fluid tank, look at the brake master cylinder fluid tank, on the right hand side about half way up is a hose that goes over to the clutch master cylinder, if fluid level is not above this hose the clutch will stop functioning. If the clutch slave cylinder, mounted on the front side of transmission bellhousing, leaks then the clutch will stop functioning. The slave cylinder has a bleed screw, check these items and fill and bleed as neccessary. Hope this helps, let me know.

Are you referring to the braking system or the clutch system? Generally the rule is that a Master Cylinder is at the pedal end of the system and the Slave Cylinder is at the other end doing the work.
The brake Master Cylinder is usually mounted high on the bulk head, (firewall), and the Slave is usually fitted inside each brake Drum. Disc brakes use the piston inside the caliper as the Slave Cylinder.
Clutch systems have the Master Cylinder bolted to the outside of the transmission case and the Slave Cylinder is mounted inside the transmission, to move the clutch mechanism.
To remove parts will depend on which one you are replacing. Some of these parts are reasonably easy to get to, like the brake Master Cylinder and others need a lot of work, like the clutch Slave Cylinder.

Slave cylinder on my 2010 dodge caliber where is it

The clutch cylinder and brake are fed off the same reservoir, but we get them separately from chrysler. Dot 3 fluid also.
Here is some info, and a picture of the system.

The clutch hydraulic system is responsible for engaging and disengaging the clutch. Depressing the clutch pedal develops fluid pressure in the clutch master cylinder. This pressure is transmitted to the integral release bearing which is in contact with the pressure plate diaphragm spring. As additional force is applied, the bearing depresses the diaphragm spring fingers inward on the fulcrums. The action moves the pressure plate rearward, relieving clamping force on the clutch disc.




The typical clutch hydraulic system consists of a clutch master cylinder (4) Concentric Slave Cylinder (CSC) and an interconnecting fluid line (2). Clutch hydraulic fluid is supplied by the brake system via the brake master cylinder reservoir (1). The clutch pedal pushrod (3) is non-adjustable.

I have a 2000 mazda 323 with a manual transmission. i have already change the clutch kit but the gear is still hard to shift

Check the hydraulic clutch operation. This is a clutch master cylinder with a reservoir on the firewall, and a clutch slave cylinder down on the bell housing of the transmission, with a steel tube running from the master to the slave cylinder. When clutch pedal is depressed, hydraulic fluid (brake fluid) is forced from the master to the slave. The slave cylinder should push out a little plunger that contacts the clutch fork lever-pushing it forward to engage the clutch.
Add brake fluid to the reservoir if needed. Watch the plunger on the slave cylinder: if it moves little, or not enough, try bleeding the slave from the bleeder valve. They are bled just like brakes. If bleeding doesn't help, your clutch master or the slave may need replacing. The master cylinder, like a brake master, has internal seals that hold hydraulic pressure, so force can be applied to the plunger on the slave cylinder.

No need to change the slave cylinder, but bleed both and if you have low or no brakes then bleed the brakes too.

Where is the clutch auto adjustment located at on a 98 manual Volkswagen jetta?

you most likely have a hydraulic clutch, which the clutch master cylinder is located on the firewall on the driverside close to your drivers side windsheild.it takes brake fluid to fill dot brake fluid will fill it properly. however if your slave cylinder on the transmission is leaking,this will require a replacement of the clutch slave cylinder. look for leakage under passenger side,,just under or below passenger side seat onto ground. recommend if you replace the clutch slave cylinder,you also replace clutch master cylinder located on the drivers side firewall at wind sheild.look under the car while someone pumps the clutch in and out,if you see brake fluid leaking under car onto ground or inside onto carpet at brake pedal,you have a bad clutch master cylinder. recommend you replace both slave cylinder and clutch master cylinder. this will save you lots of time and headaches. thank you for choosing fixya.com

The clutch goes n but its very hard to shift the gears when u can get them in. someone told me they thought it was the slave cylinder im trying to find out what ur car does when that goes out.

If it is then it will be leaking brake fluid. Look under the car near the gearbox to find it. Check the fluid level in the container.

My clutch doesn't always disengage when the peddle is on the floor and when starting out in first bolts ahead as though the clutch was already part way out. I took it to a shop and they said my clutch...

your clutch master cylinder is right beside your brake master cylinder. I would advise you to replace the master cylinder and the slave cylinder together. The slave cylinder is on the side of the transmission. The slave cylinder does have a bleeder screw on it after the parts are bolted in place fill with dot 3 brake fluid and open the bleeder on the slave cylinder until fluid starts dripping out. Then tighten bleeder then open bleeder and have someone push down on clutch pedal while the pedal is pushed down tighten the bleeder the release pedal. Repeat this procedure until you get no air and the pedal feels normal and you should be good to go. Good luck!

Clutch suddenly has no resistance and car won't shift gears. Fluids were low, have put fluid in the reservoir but still doesn't work. How do you bleed a clutch line?

on the transmission there is a slave cylinder that works like a brake cylinder, when you apply pressure to the clutch pedal a rod inside the vehicle under the dash pushes into a clutch master cylinder, (almost like a brake master cylinder without the reservoir, as the clutch master cylinder works off the brake master cylinders reservoir) the plunger in the clutch master cylinder applies fluid pressure to the slave cylinder,(located down on the trans near the clutch fork assembly) which projects a piston rod into the clutch fork dis-engaging the clutch. To bleed the clutch slave cylinder locate the bleeder screw on the slave cylinder,break loose so it loosens and tightens easily. Check fluid in brake master cylinder reservoir,fill if needed, while bleeder on the slave cyl is closed have a helper push clutch pedal to floor and back 7-8 times, (At first the clutch might stay at the floor, just pull it up by hand or foot and continue) after several pumps with no rest time push pedal to the floor and hold down with foot pressure, at this time loosen the bleeder on slave untill fluid leaks out, watch for air bubbles, close bleeder and repeat untill there is no sign of air bubbles, (make sure to check fluid in the brake master cylinder and keep fill as needed, do not let fluid get less than 1/2 empty as it might **** air and you will have to start over) If this does not bring clutch to operate then you need to check if slave cylinder is reachig its full extension of push rod or not. If it is not then you will have to replace the clutch master cyl or the clutch slave cyl or both as seals are bad and wont hold pressure. Or you need to inspect the clutch fork,the throw-out bearing, or the pressure plate fingers and clutch plate for failure or broken bent parts. I hope it turns out to be a easy fix on that clutching thing.

Leaking clutch fluid Where is the slave cylinder"..I have been told to look at the slave cylinder because I do not see fluid under the car.

Slave cylinder should be on the left side of the bellhousing (follow the line from the clutch master if necessary) If you don't see fluid but you have lost some, also check where the rod from the pedal goes through the firewall to the master...they often leak there and will not drip on the ground.
