There will be a bolt on the bottom of the engine on the oil pan. jack the car up and look underneath. its the bolt that looks like its just there not holding anything. you really cant miss it. You need to change the filter too. not sure where it is on your car, you'll just have to look for it.

I drive a 2009 journey and it is running a lil loud sounds like it needs oil but the dipstick is reading like its ok.

I am not familiar with this model but this sounds like an indication of possible serious engine wear. When you say loud are we talking about knocking noises? When the big ends and mains wear the oil has a bigger gap to go through and so the pressure goes down. Lower pressure means lower oil use and even more wear. Fit an oil pressure gauge to check for problems.

I'm a woman trying to teach myself how to maintain my own car. I have a 2009 Dodge Journey 3.5 v6. I wanted to know basic instructions on how to change the oil myself? any help pls?

You could try some YouTube videos on similar models.
Its a messy job, and for most people easier to pay someone to do.
You have to remove the drain plug from the oil pan to drain the oil into a pan, then dispose of it safely, and change the filter, then refill the oil pan with new oil.

I'm told Chilton does not make a repair manual for 2009 Dodge Journey.

You're probably right. It may be too new.

Dodge Journey owners please go to http://www.change.org/petitions/dodge-journey-s-defects sign and pass along please. Dodge had built and sold this car with defects that they refuse to fix, this is not the kind of quality we should expect.
