First off you are using an incorrect weight oil in your Honda. Your Honda requires 5W20 and not 5W40 which is way too heavy. Change the oil and filter every 5,000 miles and use the correct weight and a quality filter such as Bosch, Purolator, or Wix.

I WANT TO CHANGE THE OIL IN A 2003 VW JETTA TDI 1.9 AND I WANT TO KNOW WHICH OIL IS THE BEST

Everyone will have an opinion on brands..VW recommends 5w40 synthetic at 10,000 mile intervals.. (505.00 spec) You can use any weight you want as long as it is a 505.00 spec oil.. but 5w40 will is a good all season all around way to go.

505.01is backward compatibles so to speak.. just an fyi.

Castrol Syntec 5w40(Only available at VW Dealer) or Mobile 1 TDT (Turbo Diesel Truck) 5w40 are two you can rely on doing a good job.

You can find the Mobile 1 TDT at most auto parts stores.. I would recommend you use the Volkswagen Filter or one made by Mann, they also make a respectable one equal to or according to some better than the VW.

The opinions are all over the place on oil brands but all agree on sticking with one that meets the 505.00 spec.. and most generally agree on using the factory filter or a really well made aftermarket one as mentioned.. If you don't want to spend the hours reading all the postings.. stop by the dealer and pick up the standard VW version.

Also most folks nowadays agree on keeping to the mfg recommended intervals.. unless you are operating in harsh environments..typically the mfg has recommendations for that as well.

Which oil is the best.. Take your pick of the major brands as long as they meet the spec's.. The two I mention have better "soot capture" ability therefore may better protect your pollution control devices.

Best of luck!

My 2007 Honda Crv is growling when backing up Honda replaced the rear differential oil at 8000miles and once again at 15k the problem has returned. Has Honda come up with a better solution than replacing...

No. Contaminated rear diff fluid causes this noise while making sharp turns. By changing your service interval to every 15k miles will keep the noise under control.

How often do I need to change the synthetic oil in a 2003 jetta tdi? and what grade of oil is best?

Change it every 10k miles. You have to use 5W40 FULL SYNTHETIC oil. Not just any oil! You can buy Shell Rotella T 5w40 or Mobil1 5w40 Turbo Diesel Truck oil at Walmart. Both of these oils meet VW's TDI oil requirements.

Honda recommends Honda ATF-Z1 Transmission Fluid or a Dexron III ATF as a temporary replacement -- which should be flushed from the system and replaced with the Honda ATF-Z1.

Change;
2WD model -- 3.1 US QT or 2.9 L.
4WD model -- 3.3 US QT or 3.1 L.

Total;
2WD model -- 6.9 US QT or 6.5 L.
4WD model -- 7.6 US QT or 7.2 L.
