MY 99 PASSAT RUNS ROUGH THEN AFTER A WHILE IT GO INTO A LOSS OF POWER MODE ,THEN IT FEELS LIKE THE TRANSMISSION IS WEAKEN AS WELL .IT SLOWS DOWN . I REPLACED THE THROTTLE BODY THEN HAD IT PROGRAMED AT THE DEALER .THEY WANTED TO KEEP THE CAR FOR MORE EXPENSIVE REPAIRS .I WHAT CAN I DO T REPAIR THIS CAR SO IT DOES NOT IDLE ROUGH AND IT DOES NOT LOSE POWER

Actually "9" was a typo, Meant to be "(it died and would not hold charge)" - didn't hold shift key down - sorry. Battery is holding charge - the old battery was a good 6 years old!. I believe that when the old battery drained it reset the computer code for base idle, I am going to get a scanner on it to see if clearing the code helps - if not possibly the iddle control valve is faulty? (don't know if this year has one, the part is only listed up to 98 model year)

throttle body is located at intake manifold ..follow snorkle from air cleaner to where it attaches to motor ..looses hose and clean with carb cleaner there..open blades(throttle) to get behind entry good also..... fuel filter is located in tank and in line from fuel tank just in front of tank inline with fuel line...good luck

Sounds like you ran extremly LOW on gas or out.

You need to have the throttle reset..

Try a VW shop. The'll have to use VAG com.

If it is what I think it is.

hi there i prosume its an auto if so there are 3 plugs at the rear of the box by the bell housing in a row going up you have to access them from underneath and dont forget its a special fluid,

i had the same problem... Change the spark plugs and the ignition coils, All of them... It usually accelerates without giving it gas.. Don't worry about that...
