well your motor which lays in rubbers , needs rubbers that needs to be replaced , the engine needs to be straight and with some power turn some, not a lot and check if your gear rubbers are not loose
is it actually rotating when the engine turns over I know sounds stupid but I\'ve seen the teeth that goes inside against the cam break off on first turn over happened to me once on a Honda, also that same car my original problem was I was getting power and everything like you but the icm on the distributor was putting the power out on the ground side and the power turned to ground not allowing the distributor to do its job and produce spark
When you set the timing you set it for all 8 cylinders, I do not think you have timing problem. Did you check with different distributor cap? Even if it is new, could be defective. Please let me know what was the problem, never heard something like this.
recheck everything again. check for spark. if no spark, then your distributor is not getting power(12v). if you have spark, then check for fuel pressure. spray starting fluid in the carburator and see if it starts. if it does then your not getting fuel. if you have both then take out the distributor, put your #1 piston at TDC on the compression stroke and reinstall your distributor and try again, your timing may be off. Good luck.
First thing you need to do is to check everything. Make sure all the connection is connected. You want to check and see if you have spark and see if you can hear the fuel pump turn on. If you cant hear it with the key in the ignition turn to on(which the pump will be on for a couple of sec)check the pump and fuses. And if you do not have spark or fuel pump turning on, you may want to check the ignition switch which also supplies power to the pump and dis when key is in the on position or when trying to start.
