Hi...we just replaced the battery in my 99 Toyota 4runner Limited. Now when I use the remote key to unlock or lock the vehicle it no longer makes the beep horn sound. The remote itself still works to lock and unlock the vehicle. Could it be a fuse or something? Also note I have a aftermarket remote keyless start. It still works ...just not the beep. I guess it shouldn't be a big deal but the beep is nice whenever I park in a huge parking lot and can't quite remember where the car is and let's me know when it is locked in the event I lock it from inside the house.

The aftermarket remote starter probably reset. Do you have the instruction manual for it? You should be able to run it through the initial 'start up' options and set the horn to beep for you.

I but a new remote control of my toyota 4runner 1999 and i need i need direction on how to program the remote myself without me going to any dealer for me to save some money

Here are the instructions for programming the 99-02 4Runner Keyless Entry factory remotes:

1. Start with the following conditions: you are in the vehicle

a. Key is out of the ignition
b. Drive door is open ( all other doors are closed)
c. Driver door is unlocked (other door locks don't matter)

2. Insert the key into the ignition (don't turn it) and pull it out.

3. Perform these steps within 40 seconds:

a. Cycle the power locks 5 times. Use an even pace and try
to go relatively fast.

b. Close, then open the drivers door.

4. Perform these steps within 40 seconds:

a. Cycle the power locks 5 times (same as before).
b. Turn the ignition to ON then back to OFF.
c. Turn the ignition to ON then back to OFF.
d. Remove the key from the ignition.

5. Within 3 seconds, the power door locks should cycle (automatically)
indicating successful entry into programming mode. Return to step 1
if the locks do not cycle at this point.

6. Perform these steps within 40 seconds:

a. Press the LOCK and UNLOCK buttons on the transmitter
simultaneously for 1 second.

b. Immediately after letting go of the lock and unlock buttons,
press the lock button by itself and hold for 2 seconds.
Within 3 seconds, the door locks should cycle ( LOCK then
UNLOCK) once-- indicating successful programming. If
the door locks don't cycle, or cycle twice. Repeat steps
6a and 6b--this remote has not been accepted.

c. Repeat steps 6a and 6b for EACH transmitter that will
operate the vehicle. Including any old transmitters.

7. Close the driver door.

Last week I noticed the *chirp* sound wasnt working any more. Over the weekend... the Keyless Remote stopped working totally. So I radio shacked a new battery in the remote... but it still does not work. I tried these reprogramming instructions, but they do not work either. "Within 3 seconds, the power door locks should cycle (automatically)" This doesnt happen. So I am wondering if I am doing the cycle correctly ... Any Advice would be appreciated. 2000 4RUNNER LIMITED LOCKS ? CAN THEY BE PROGRAMED

If a vehicle has manual locks that means, to make it power locks you will have to install power locks motors on all doors, and change all of the door panels with switches and get a power box, for the operation of the door locks, and it will have to be wired to the fuse box.....

My suggestion, go buy a truck with power locks....
