If the distributor was removed and the rotor position was not marked. You will need to turn the crankshaft until cylinder 1 1st cylinder on drivers is at tdc.The when setting the distibutor back in make sure the rototr is lined up with cylinder 1 on the cap. If it keeps throwing out a ckp correlation code but seems to run ok you will need to turn the distributor while its in the vehicle just a little one way or the other.Usually if its off the ckp correlation code will turn the engine light on immediately.I usually leave the the distributor snug but loose enough to turn until that code stops coming up.Once you get that code to quit coming up tightened the distributor down completely. There should be a timing mark on the harmonic balancer.Mark it with white crayon or chalk for visibilty yellow works as well. You need that mark to line up with the marks on the timing chain cover.

When adjusting the distributor like that you will need to erase any codes set your position the start the vehicle again,If it comes back up shut down and turn a little more clear then start back up.Basically just repeat this process until there is no code. With any luck you'll get it on the first try.

    Good luck to you.

What's the easiest way to check for proper timing mark on 351c which now has electronic ignition. New plugs and wire's, dist cap & rotor timing light saying correct mark, but it knocks and no power

Hi,you need to put the crank to t,d,centre mark with the piston on number one cylinder t,d,centre, and the rotor pointing to number one lead thats firing on number one, then slowly turn the crank so that the rotor pionts to the nexst lead and check that its firing on the right cylinder, and do the next one until you have checked them all,(have all the sparkplugs out when doing this check, when the rotor is pionting to the lead for the right cylinder you should be able to put a screw driver in the spark plug hole and check that the piston is at t,d,centre)if after doing this everything is as it should be,then at t,d,centre with rotor pionting at number one cylinder, loosen distributor and slowly move distibutor anty clockwise, about ten centermeters, turn ignition on and move distibutor clock wise slowly when sparks, move back to where you thoght you see the spark begine,do it a couple of times until you think you are shore you have it right, then tighten, now turn engine over it should start ok if you have done it correctly wait for engine to reach running temp then put timing light on and ajust, all the best hope this was some help.

Have taken distibutor out of engine how do I retime engine

The easy way to find Top Dead Center is to take out # 1 spark plug and put your finger in the hole in the block. Get someone to crank the engine over as slow as you can until you feel air pressure blow by your finger. turn engine by hand until timing marks line up with 0 mark on harmonic dampener. you are now ready to install distibutor . make sure the rotor points to #1 cylinder when fully seated. It is also a good idea to line up the oil pump shaft slot with distibutor grove and it will drop in easier. Good Luck.

I am wondering how do you put a 2002 chevy s10 blazer extreme into time after taking out the distributor to replace the gasket?

if you did not rotate the engine, you put it bsck in the EXACT place it was when pulled out. If you did not mark it, you will need to get #1 Cylinder on TDC and put it in, it should run, but you will need a scanner to set the rotor position (cam ******) to ZERO The distributor does not alter the timing

Changing pickup coil

You have to remove the distributor from the engine then remove the distributor shaft from the distibutor housing, then you can remove & replace the pickup coil. Make sure you marke the exact location of the distributor body in relation to the intake manifold and note exactly where the rotor is pointing in relation to the distributor cap. I always set the timing marks on the front pulley at zero and make sure that the rotor is pointing at the #1 plug wire terminal on the cap before removing any distributor as it makes getting it in time easier if you lose your marks. You should reset the ignition timing when you have it all back together again as you'll most likely be off a few degrees. Some of these distributors had problems with the magnets in the distibutor shaft that would mimic a failing pickup coil and they were prone to drive gear wear. If you suspect any of those problems it's often easier to replace the entire distibutor with a reman unit.

I have a 94 s10 blazer 4.3 and I had to remove the distributor but never marked it so now the timing is messed up. The distributor dose not have a #6 alignment mark so I cant get it working right. How do I...

Remove cylinder # 1 spark plug, # 1 is the front one on drives side, turn crankshaft pulley to TDC on compression stroke, you'll feel the comperssion at cylinder #1 spark plug hole, follow cylinder # 1 spark plug wire to distributor cap, mark outer part of distributor where # 1 sits, remove distributor and restabe distributor with rotor at mark you made, then set timing.

Timing on a 2000 chevy s10 blazer 4.3. Replaced bent push rod and valve, now can't find any specific guidance on how timing is to be set.

The timing is not adjustable. There are two lines on the harmonic balancer, the first line should line up with the mark on the timing cover, towards the bottom, on the driver side of the engine, the second line should line up with an arrow on the timing cover above the first mark. You'll need to have the rotor in the distributor lined up with the "6" on the distributor housing. You may need a long screw driver to turn the oil pump shaft to get the distributor lined up right.

I need to know how to install a distributor in a 1986 toyota cressida with a 5m-ge motor the engine is special order item and i do not have enough money to get one . Can you explain to me how to do this?...

Turn your engine to number one compression stroke. The best way is to plug the spark plug hole with your finger, and then touch the key a little bit at a time, until it blows your finger out.The piston will be at the top, and valves will be closed. Then center your timing mark on the crank so it's on 0 on the guide. (it should be almost there, but you'll have to wiggle it a bit). Then, with the cap off your distributor, push it in so the rotor is going to be hitting in the same place as #1 on your distibutor cap. Install your cap and it should start. If not, move the distibutor slightly until it does. Adjust timing, and you're done.
