Had this problem. The kick-down cable between the throttle and the transmission had lost its bushing that keeps it connected on the throttle (top) end. A new one costs less than $5. You'll probably have to get a set of assorted ones, but it's still a pretty easy fix.
Had this problem. There is a kick-down bar between the throttle and the transmission. The plastic connector which keeps it together on the throttle (top) end had come off. A new one came in a small box of assorted ones, but still costs less than $5. Remove the throttle cover and you'll see a bead chain on the side of the rocker away from the manifold. There should be a telescoping bar, possibly fallen down, below that which attaches to a hole in the throttle near the bead chain. The nub goes through the hole and is secured by the plastic fastener which is the only thing you should have to buy.
sry, 1st post wouldn't show up and of course it did when i posted again.

Sounds like your transmission is on the fritz. Try changing the fluid and filter see if that helps. If that doesnt try a can of anti slip from any good parts place (Napa). If this dosent help it's time for a rebuild on the transmission
