High idle on 1997 toyota camery

Has the OBD codes been read ? If not i'd have that done and any codes will need to be deleted so you get a reading from the replaced parts

1100 to 1300 is normal on a cold start. May want to see if a vacuum leak has developed or if the throttle plate is sticking open when it is cold.

Hi Steph ! Since is a 4 (FOUR ) cylinder engine the firing order is 1342.

First check would be your coolant thermostat, which probably has failed in the closed position

If the engine has a carb then this is normal. If it is fuel injected then possibly a vacuum leak or stuck throttle plate or cable.

if it only does this when its cold its normal, the car is just setting a higher idle to warm up the engine

maybe slow,cold start,air control valve or,possibly normal for temp in morning,I live in Australia and cars can take ages to slow down in winter eg1 to 3 deg cel...and very quickly warm up in summer..eg....idle slows down in 1/4 time,have a look at the car if you can park it in warmer conds... to see if its quicker as Toyotas do this normally for fast warm up,lastly has it been well serviced...looked after??

May need a tune- up, you know plugs and wires.

check for vacume line leaks first then intake manifold leaks

Hondas are famous for this, my accord does it. This is normal UNLESS it still idles high after normal running temp. has occured. Watch your temp. gauge when it reaches normal temp tap the gas a little bit if the idle drops then it is fine
