Check altenator most likley bad brushes
Could be either one or both get the battery charged if you have another vehicle hook up cables and see if it takes a charge for about 30 min DO NOT CRANK THE ENGINE FOR ANY REASON JUST PRESS YOUR REMOTE TO SHUT OFF THE ALARM SO IT DOESN'T GO INTO THEFT MODE AND PREVENT STARTING WHEN I WANT YOU TO START IT OK THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT THAT YOU FOLLOW WHAT I'M TELLING YOU OTHERWISE YOU WILL DRAIN THE BATTERY FROM CRANKING IN THEFT MODE ///////NEXT AFTER THE 30- 45 MINUTES OF CHARGING THERE SHOULD BE SUFFICIENT POWER TO START AND RUN THE ENGINE MAKE SURE THAT YOUR BATTERY HAS DISTILLED WATER IN IT IF YOU HAVE CAPS? ON IT BEFORE YOU START THE CHARGING PROCESS NOW FOR A SECOND OR 2 HONK THE HORN AND SEE IF YOU HAVE HEADLIGHTS A LOUD HORN AND STRONG LIGHTS WILL SHOW A CHARGE IF YOU HAVE A VOLT METER CHECK FOR VOLTAGE BETWEEN 12.5 TO 13.5 VOLTS IF YOU HAVE THE VOLTS THATS GOOD NOW START THE ENGINE IF THE BATTERY LIGHT IS ON IN THE DASH THE ALTERNATOR MAYBE BAD CHECK FOR VOLTAGE AGAIN WITH THE METER IT SHOULD BE 14.4 IF YOU DON'T HAVE A VOLT METER QUICKLY DISCONNECT THE BATTERY CABLES WHILE THE ENGINE IS RUNNING IF IT DIES THE ALTERNATOR IS BAD THE MOTOR SHOULD KEEP RUNNING OFF THE ALTERNATOR POWER THAT IT IS GENERATING SO GOOD LUCK I'M SORRY IF I LISTED THINGS OUT OF ORDER I'M A TAXI MECHANIC IN NYC WITH 50 YEARS OF EXPERIENCE BUT I'VE BEEN WORKING FOR 16 HOURS TRYING TO GET CARS RUNNING FROM VERY HEAVY RAIN HERE TODAY THE DRIVERS AREN'T SMART ENOUGH TO SLOW DOWN WHEN GOING THROUGH FLOODED ROADS AND HUGE PUDDLES AND I'M BY MYSELF THE OTHER 2 GUYS ARE OUT WITH THE SUPER BOWL FLU SO I'M TRYING TO HELP YOU ON MY LUNCH BREAK AND IN BETWEEN VEHICLES SO PLEASE READ EVERYTHING FIRST PUT DISTILLED WATER IN THE BATTERY FIRST IF YOU CAN OTHERWISE CHARGE IT AND DO THE REST DESCRIBED OK GOOD LUCK STEPHEN

yes you can. the head light switch come out real ez it un plug on the back side .and the cluster come out in one pices

Check to make sure that there's power from the alternator to the battery on the charge-back wire. If nothing's there, then your alternator is junk and you'll have to replace it again.

My 2002 Ford
Escape had a similar issue later in 2006. My alternator died and I needed replacement. After replacing, the light would come on and off at times. When everything running (i.e. radio, air conditioner, driving lights) and tocuh electric windows up the power would lower and sometimes battery light on dashboard would come up. Original mechanic could find out what was going on and I lived for 2-3 years with it.
This past August 2009 after a long trip (i.e. 8 hours or so) my battery died. Brought to a auto parts place and they determined it was the baterry and the alternator. Since I was back on my home town I went to a good friend that is a mechanic and he fixed it for real.
He had a similar issue with three different Escapes coming back with alternator or baterry or both death. He found out that Ford has an official report for Escapes that when this happens the electric fan behind the radiator are short circuiting, affect direclty the baterry and alternator killing them, and needs replacement.
Try this and may work for you.

Checked Every fuse in the fuse box (no small task).This includes #4 - Power point Instrument Panel, #14 - Day time running lamps (auto lamps doesn't work nor does auto lock), #27 - ignition switch run feed, #35 - Instrument Cluster, #41 - Instrument Cluster, #42 - Delayed Accessory, #45 - Ignition switch run/start feed, #102 - Door locks body security module, #103 - Ignition switch, #110 - Ignition switch, & #116 - Ignition switch. But I also check all other ones as well, they all register OK. AC panel & radio work. Turn signals work. Mileage does not work, trip computer does. So, basically, everything works except auto head-lights, auto locks, and the dash cluster (no MPH, RPM, mileage display, Fuel, Temp, Tran Temp, and Oil Pressure).
