Does it smooth out as the engine warms and time passes? I had this issue with my 300ZX and although I couldn't solve it due to my running twin open-element filter cones, my suspicion was that condensation on the mass airflow sensing element was causing the issue. It's a hoot wire meter and when cold and damp it'd stumble. As the element warmed it burned off the condensation and the car would smooth out. Maybe that's the issue you're having too?

You need to change your HT leads and your distributor cap. When they get old they are very prone to allow moisture to penatrate and cause the leads and cap to ark causing poor running and starting. Try spraying a moisture repellent (WD40) on the leads and cap then run thru the car wash see if it helps. Good luck.

We recently washed our engine bay on our vt 2000 wagon commodore and after that it ran rough, so we replaced spark plugs and leads, still ran rough so we replaced the coil pack still same problem. When we...

If you replaced all the plug wires and coil, and it still runs rough, you may wantto make sure you check any electrical distribution boxes that may be under the hood.
When I wash engine bays, I always cover the coil and alternator with bags as to not get them wet. Also it never hurts to spray some WD-40 on the wires/coil. It displaces the water (Water Displacement Formula 40) and arc less. You may also want to put some dielectric grease in the boots of the wires on each end to help seal them.

Runs rough and smells of fuel after washing engine!

Don't "wash" the motor, like you wash the outside. Did you pressure wash it? God people are too freakin anal retentive and go screwing up their engines. Next time use engine cleaner and try not wet any wiring harnesses or anything electrical. You probably killed a sensor connection or something.
