I backed my 2004 TrailBlazer into a trailer tongue and dented the tailgate up near the button that releases the tailgate window. Now the window won't latch and stay closed. How can I access the inside of this panel to bang out the dent and get the latch back into position? Thanks!

Remove the thick plastic panel. If I recall, there is 1 torx screw (I could be wrong), but rest are clips, just pops off.

SOURCE: need to remove back door panel

first buy a tool from cdn tire or an auto store call "door panel trim pad" ....looks like a large bent screwdriver with a groove on the end ...this will allow you to successfully remove the 4 panel pins you will see after you take off the handle strap mechanism and the two rubber stabilizers on either side of the liftgate...then carefully pry back the panel on the side and you will see the first set of pins ...one per side ....wiggle the pad trim remover in so that it engages the pin above the moulded post on the inside of the panel and prey up on the tool...like a hammer removing a nail ...shouldn't have too much problem getting these off ...further up the panel again going in from the side you will see the other pins ...same procedure ....now all that is left are 5 snap in moulded tabs(part of the actual panel itself ...one on each side of the window frame position of the panel about halfway up the window ...use the tool again as a lever and they will come out easily ...hold on to the panel carefully as the remaining 3 tabs are in top of the frame portion of the panel and not much is supporting the panel now except you...they disengage pretty easily as well ...now the panel is off ...while you are in there put some extra padding on the speakers by dropping them down and putting 1/4 in foam tape on the inside lip of the speaker rim ...these rattle in cold weather ...when you are putting the panel back start with the top 3 tabs and the the 2 side tabs ,one side after the other ...then the panel will support itself while you direct the sabre ends on the pin fasteners into the holes in the metal door ...used my head to snap them in position ...then reinstall the stabilizer rubbers and the back strap ....hope it goes well ...nothing to be worried about after i did it once ,,,David Little Toronto

SOURCE: broken tailgate latch

Remove the paneling from inside. Than you can use a flathead screwdriver to pry the latch rod and latch enough to pop open the door.

SOURCE: 2003 Trailblazer LTZ Tailgate and back window won't unlatch

I am not sure how to manually release the latch....

however,

if it is electronic, i would check the fuse for it.....normally though on the inside there is a little access to things like that, so you can manually open it...would be like a small lever.

if you don't find any screws then it is held in place by push pins. Make sure you check for cover caps near any interior release handles. These push pins are plastic and typically are spaced 8 to 10 inches apart all the way around the outer edge. You have to pry these up carefully and make sure they come our of the metal and not out of the panel itself. They are replaceable and available at Auto Zone and Advance Auto in the generic section.

Need to know if door panel can be removed to take out dents in door. I am female but not afarid of the work , do most minor repairs my self, cannot afford shop prices,,,,,need help,,,,,,thanks

This may sound ridiculous but have you tried a toilet plunger? Push in slow at dent, then pull out fast?
A quick stop or call to a local "Dent wizard" may surprise you. Sometimes relatively cheap and quick.
That said, yes door panel should come off. Search closely under and behind door handles etc., in out of the view places for any screws, as well as feel in any area probably near bottom where there may be carpet like fabric. Once you've got all you can find, pick a corner, or bottom, and give a quick pull to release any clips that are attached to back of panel. Once you start and have a section pulled out, you'll be able to see or feel where next one is holding. A good tool for popping those is available at parts stores. Looks Like a screwdriver at handle but has an angled double blade at end like a snakes tongue.motor1258_0.gif

I put a trailer hitch on my venture and when I put just a little bit of weight on it, the trailer almost hit the ground near the hitch area, is this normal, or do I need shocks or springs?

Maybe springs, just make sure that when you put a load in the trailer that you put the weight over the trailer tire's to equal the weight and not put the load on the bumper.

I have the same problem with my Passport.
Thought part of my problem was it got rear ended and dented the tailgate.
I am currently having the work taken acre of at a body shop that thinks they can pull the dent out and get it open again.
I guess there's a celenoid that releases the window and not a physical latch. It sounds a bit more complicated than I had thought it would be.
I don't know if this helps but I can let you know what they find out once I get the car back.
