Probably a bad switch.it should be somewhere near the top rear of your brake pedal.

I'm not familiar with Hondas at all, but in Ford Escorts and certain Mazda models, there's a small pad which the brake light switch plunger hits to turn off the brake lights when the pedal is released. When these pads get old, they crumble and fall on the floor; and there's nothing left to turn off the brake lights.

Other than that, I agree with previous post.

On 92 honda civic the battery light stays on. Is

No your alternator is not longer working correctly. It could be as simple as a broken alternator drive belt. Open the hood an see if you see any naked pulleys. If the belt is in place then you most likely with have bad alternator. NAPA and Autozone have stores that can test your old alternator. Con comeone into removing it and have it tested. If it is bad get a REBUILT one. A new one will cost a small fortune!

How do you check the timing on a 1992 honda civic 1.5 liter motor.

buy using a timing gun, any mechanic shop can do it for barley nothing. If you start having problems running correctly you might consider to have the timing belt check and replace, you dont want the timing belt to break or jump time, being 92' it may not ever have the timing belt replace. if it break or jump time bad, the chance you take is bent valves. timing belt should be replace every 75-100 k miles
