Rattling noise when cold start. noise dissapear when engine warm up .2000 Ford taurus SE

If its a ticking noise Sounds like some sticky lifters. The heads get build up on them over the years and it takes awhile for the oil to get thin (hot) enfo to lube them. The noise is them being dry.

I have heard that Fords theory behind that is to supply maximum oil pressure to moving parts sooner. All the Ford products do this and the motors last well into the hundreds of thousand of miles. I wouldn't be to worried about it since there is no issue with it to my knowledge and there is no way to limit the cold start RPM's.

Cold start warm ups are a thing of the past. Better lubricants, engines, fuel injection and other computer controls have made start ups easier on the engine. 30 seconds is barely enough time to warm up anything and after a few seconds oil has already reached all of its intended lubricating points. That first few seconds is the hardest on the engine. Regardless of how any RPM's it is turning.

sounds like your thermostat is stuck open, if its takes a very long time for the engine to warm up and you get nothing but cold air from your heat then thats the first place i would start.

That is just the way the engine warms itself up to operating temp and gets the oil and fluids moving around to lubricate the engine.

sound like you have have "valve chatter"

4.0l's are notorious for valve rattle on cold start-up. There is really nothing you can do to make it go away short of completely replacing the valve train in the top end, and that isn't a permanent fix. It's is an top end oiling issue from the factory. Just don't race your engine on cold start-up until the rattle stops.

The rattle in the transmission sounds to me to be more of a loose dust shield/heat shield around the transmission or exhaust than a mechanical issue.

does your oil light come on because if your oil light comes on and the the car is cold there is no knocking but when the car warms up you hear the knocking its going to be your oil pump and the oil pump screen

My first thought is to have the Catalytic converter inspected. Many time the converters will have the insides break away and begin to float around, the insides of the converters look like a honey comb and after the engine is good and hot the dislodged piece will adhere to the other parts of the honey comb thus making the rattle go away.

Are you useing the recommened grade of fuel, the Taurus will have cold start issues if prem. fuel is used when 89 octane is recommened, saw this many times while working for ford.
