The 4.3 requires a minimum of 54 psi to start but will run on less once it is started but absolutely has to have a minimum of 54 psi to start.

if applicable, check air idle control valve for loose or broken hoses and valve it self. If carbureted I'd say rite off accelerator pump. if trodel body injection in turning key to start gas should shoot into body, you should be able to see it. If not it could be dist module in any case in turning key to start with injection gas gets put into engine peddle has nothing to do with it. Hope some of this mite help, good luck,

SOURCE: starts then dies

Aftermarket pump or OEM? If aftermarket, take it back and get a new one. Before you go through all that though, you may want to check the fuel pressure. You need to check the specifications on what the pressuresupposed to be for this model.

SOURCE: 98 gmc jimmy loses power to a stop

the fuel pump could actually be malfunctioning. and the reason that you are able to restart and drive again is because when you turn the key on it is allowing the fuel pump to pressureize your system. but while the fuel pump is continuasly running it is loosing the fuel pressure. this is common on the cheap fuel pumps. i am not sure about were you got the fuel pump from but in all of my experiances with this problem i find that the fuel pumps have been boughten at a napa store.
i hope this helps you out.
and you could attach a fuel pressure gauge on to the fuel rail and start the car and watch the pressure to see if it is droping.

My gmc jimmy truck starts with starting fluid then stopS

sounds like no gas getting to the carb. plugged fuel filter, fuel line, bad fuel pump. the carb should squirt a little gas when the throttle is pumped. leave ignition off while looking down the carb and pump the throttle linkage to visually check that gas is squirting down the carb with each stroke of the linkage. maybe you are just out of gas!!

Wont start

Did you mean starting fluid or a full tank of gas ?
V6 vortec engines require 60psi of fuel pressure or more to run.
You may need to check the fuel pressure with a gauge.

97 gmc jimmy cranks but won't start, have replaced everything possible but still won't start, most of the time the brake lights won't work, or the gauges goes crazy. I have changed relays,...

There are two basic reasons for not starting - no spark or no fuel, both of which are controlled by the ECM. You need to check error codes and these items - for the spark, test it at the cylinder 1 sparkplug; for the fuel check the pressure (if too high or low, problem!).

Ran out of gas on a 1997 gmc jimmy and 4 days later it just cut off and than it won,t crank I let it sit for a minute and than it crank but it happen again. What to do?

Cranking and fuel issues are two separate things. Check age of battery and voltage across terminals. Does it always crank as long as you hold the key but not start? If cranking okey, check fuel pressure, key -on,cranking,or if it does start. Check battery cables for corrosion, also inside cables. Do,a voltage drop test on both cables.. Need a meter or just have a shop pick it up and take care of it.

1996 GMC Jimmy Need help trouble shooting. Turns over but won't

Fuel pump or injector assembly. Need to know what the fuel pressure is before throwing a part at it. By what you are saying I'm leaning tword the fuel pump. Make sure the wires at the top of the sending unit are not burn. There is a small 4 wire connector on the inside of the sending unit. If it's burnt you will need to replace both the pump and sending unit.
