While driving in cruise control my 2005 chevy equinox stopped accelerating. Once i realized this I turned off cruise control and tried the gas pedal with negative results. The car did cruised till I got to the shoulder. Once i was on the shoulder I turned off the engine and it would not start up after that. The engine starter works but the engine would not start. When this happened the "traction control light" came on Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Probably caused by the electronic throttle control . How many miles on the vehicle ? The gas pedal has position sensors that the PCM - engine computer uses to know how much to open the throttle plate .

The TAC system eliminates the mechanical link between the accelerator pedal and the throttle plate. The TAC system eliminates the need for a cruise control module and idle air control motor. - The accelerator pedal
- The accelerator pedal position (APP) sensor 1
- The APP sensor 2
• The throttle body assembly includes the following components:
- The throttle position (TP) sensor 1

need to hook scanner see what codes are , cause all cars are drive by wire instead of cable, so u have accelerator sensors on your pedal and electric throttle body

this is a problem ive seen before turns out it was a leaking valve on vac booster (Not 4 brakes) that made car try to accelerate when owner tried to stop , take caution while driving this till it can be replaced

check your throttle pedal position switch and your throttle position sensor

there will be a cable from the cruise control that moves when the cruise controls the car. This cable is usually paralleled to the cable that the accelerator pedal moves.At the throttle control of the engine you will find these wire cables. If the cruise control cable is not oiled it can seize in the cable sleeve which might affect the accelerator pedal also.

open the hood and check to see that the throttle cables are not out of place, if everything looks ok then unhook the cruise control cable from the throttle body (black plastic end) by pulling up on the cable end. this will disable your cruise control from making your car accelerate at unwanted times. sounds like there may be a problem with the cruise control servo.

Equinox 2005-onwards
Turn ignition to the "ON" position. Slowly depress accelerator pedal 3 times within 5 seconds. "CHANGE OIL SOON" lamp will flash. Turn ignition off.

First the vehicle has to be operating at least 35mph. There will be two sets of switches, one set is to the left and the other set is to the right of the horn on the steering wheel. The switches on the left will be labeled on/off, the ones on the right we be labeled Coast/Accel/Resume..

At a steady highway speed press the ON switch, (at the left hand side of the horn) This will activate and turn the speed control system ON...

Then you have to set and adjust your desired speed...

To SET YOUR DESIRED speed , press and hold the accel switch (Right side of Horn) until your desired speed has been reached and then release the switch.. Speed control will now be on, activated and set, you will be in cruise mode..

If you need to coast due to possible traffic, press and hold the coast switch as long as you need to.. This is like taking your foot off of the accelerator pedal.. When you let go of the coast switch you will return to you set cruising speed.

Stepping on the brake pedal at any time will deactivate the system.. If you step on the brake, and then want to return to your previous set cruising speed... All you have to do is press resume...
