Automatic? Manual? More info is always helpful in diagnosing issues.
I'll take a guess. Check your motor and transmission mounts and torque strut. Excessive movement could cause twisting of the engine assembly enough to cause issues.
Put the E-brake on and press on the brake while having another person watch the engine with the hood open. As you put it into Drive notice the movement, then go to Reverse. It really shouldn't move that much front to rear so if you're getting a few inches of movement going from Drive, then to Reverse and back again a few times, mounts are the issue.
Check the throttle position sensor, If it's sticking it will cause this problem by incorrectly metering fuel to the injectors. It is really easy to change and doesn't cost much. Worth a shot....Hope this helps...
Your check engine light is on because the computer picked up a problem with the vehicle. Take it to Autozone and they will scan it for free. They will let you know what is wrong and what parts you may need.
pardo me for asking but is there not a method of selection of rverse gear by either pressing or lifting the gear lever so it will move over further so as to select reverse? or a lift up circular boss on gear lever itself that has to be lifted then reverse position can be selected ? hope this helps ?
The lights have nothing to do with your car not going in reverse. I know this is going to sound silly but, are you releasing the parking brake? That brake is the lever between the front seats. Are you taking your foot off the brake?
I know they sound silly but you would be surprised at how often this happens with th eparking brake.
When you put the car in reverse can you feel the transmission engaging? You should feel a slight **** when you put it in reverse with your foot on the brake. If you are not feeling this, your transmission needs to be repaired.
It sound like your transmission in safe mode. meening it will stay in one gear tell you repair it(3 gear) thats why it moves very slow. you need inside repair . it could be the shiffting sensor or overhaul for the transmission.
hard to say its a Volkswagen could be computer related how does the fluid in the gear box look? if you drive it (can you?) does it make any noises? please rate -jeff
