2001 kia sportage radio works intermittently (audio). When it does work, volume has to be low. If volume is increased, no audio output..but radio dial/station indication is still present. Only no audio output.

That is a problem for the experienced mechanic I would start at the battery,all cables,wires ground wires & look at the alternator output,current & diodes. Sounds like a module is not getting battery voltage or could be an issue also Don't see the starter in that picture unless you had no problems before it got put in ,then something other than the starter was disturbed or grounded out by the key being on etc,sloppy work practice & ruined something

There is usually a fuse in the radio itself,or in the radio harness .Also when you check the fuses there are two in the car-one for the always on power and one for the ignition power to the radio.Check the operaters manual to see which ones you need to check.If the radio need to come out you should be able to find the anchor nut under the radio knobs,they just pull off.Good luck.
assuming the instrument cluster is ok check the output shaft sensor on the transmission. It sends the signal for speed of output shaft which is translated into mph.
