My 2000 Firebird 3.8 v6 has an awful squealing sound at the back drivers side of engine. I have replaced the serptine belt, all pulleys, waterpump, alternator, tentioner, a/c and idler pulley. I also had the transmission serviced and still make the noise. Does it at 1500 rpm in reverse, driving, and idle. Please help, tired of spending unnecessary money.

Hi, Check if the pulleys are lined up correctly maybe before you had it someone changed a pully & it is not the correct one, hence out of line or one pulley is damaged, but by what you state. I am sure you would have noted something wrong on one of the pulleys if a weld was split or bent one side of a pulley. Please send me feedback to [email protected] Thanks Malcolm Campbell.

I might not have enough information but the squeal is most likely a worn bearing. Try to isolate it with a "mechanic's stethescope" to locate the source. A pin point shot of WD-40 at the whining bearing (NO NOT put it on good bearings should TEMPORARILY quiet it IF it is a bearing. DO NOT overspray, just at the center of the pulleys...the lubricant should get pulled into bearing to confirm that the pump (power steering would be my guess) needs replacing.

Tensioner bolt bottoms out on idler pulley (belt for Poly-V A/C & Idler) on 2000 Nissan Pathfinder SE

Pulleys also wear.
You've changed the belts - a workshop would then change that particular pulley, if asked to do so.

Start your engine, then put a few drops of water onto that pulley. Does the squealing noise disappear? If so, the pulley is slightly worn in the groove - and this happens to all vehicles.

Your option is to either replace that pulley or use a spray-on anti squeal compound.

My chevy 2000 malibu is shredding through its serpintine belt ive replaced the tension pulley and the power steering pulley and bought and replaced a belt what else can be wrong one of the pulleys i think...

Yes that is very likely it. Since you changed the belt, you should know - Is it the tensioner pulley ? Otherwise it is probably the water pump. The problem is the bearings.. If the bearings are locking up, the resistance will shred the belt quickly.. the part needs to be replaced is the bearings. Waterpump bearings are built in to pump. Change whole thing. (may need to transfer the pulley)

How much will it cost to replace a water pump on 1997 chrysler lhs v6.

the waterpump on this car is turned by the timing belt, when you replace the waterpump on this car the timing belt should be replaced no doubt about it, the timing belt must be replaced and also the pulleys checked and if the car have 100,000 miles or more the timing belt pulleys must be replaced. the reason for this is that if for any reason the belt jumps or breakes then engine damage will occur, the pistons will bend the valves and this is very costly, there is no extra labor to do the belt it has to be removed to do the waterpump you would just pay for the parts, for example to do a waterpump it would run about $400.00, then to do it right with a waterpump timing belt and pulleys it would run 500.00,i think its a wise thing to do.this car only uses one pulley that needs replacing so i said pulleys but rather just a pulley that runs in this belt design. good day, heres a few diagrams to help explain how it works.johnjohn2_126.gifjohnjohn2_127.gifjohnjohn2_128.gif

1999 dodge durango 5.9 v8 loud squealing noise from under hood replaced tenison pulley, idler pulley, ac pulley/clutch assembley, and belt please help

You didn't mention the alternator, power steering pump, or water pump. In fact, any pulley other than the crankshaft one can have a bad bearing or dry seal. Remove the belt and spin each pulley while listening for any rough noise or squeal. If it was the crankshaft, it might be time to check the oil. Start the engine with the belt off to see if it does squeal. Make sure the noise isn't coming from the radiator fan(s).
