I have a 2007 convertible beetle, and the top will not go down the cinser needs replacing the dealer charging $900.00 to do the work,labor and parts. I don't have even half of the money. I need help! where is a good place to go get the work done at lesser price? I live in Bedford, Ohio Thank you

There is a federal warranty of 5 years on all catalytic converters. It should not cost you anything to have it replaced. You stated that it was a 2007 and then a 2011, which year is it? If it is a 2007, you are almost outside of the federal warranty.

Sounds like a likely diagnosis. I would find an independent garage that specializes in VW to check it out.

The 790,000 vehicles include Jettas, New Beetles, Golfs, GTIs and R32s...all in the United States.
The specific years and models affected are:

• 2001-2005 Jetta wagons

The malfunctioning brake lights and brake light switches could fail to come on or remain stuck on.

Volkswagen said that dealers will immediately be prepared to accept service appointments to perform the repair at no charge, but the notification process isn't scheduled to begin until April.
NHTSA did not say if any injuries had been reported linked to the defective brake lights.

unless you get them from the dealer, the only other place you may have some luck is the "junk-yard"

my QUESTION is: where IS the "top ajar" light on my 2007 VW New Beetle convertible??

Just took my 2004 A4 convertible (25,000 miles) to the dealer...needed new module...cost $375 for part and $300 for labor. Maybe this should be a recall item.

Possibly just a relay telling the window to lower slightly has gone bad. If it's only when the top is put up or down, you can either lower the windows yourself (most cost effective since it's not a major inconvenience), take it to a dealer if you are still under warranty, or check to see if there is a sensor or relay that has gone bad, causing this malfunction.

look under the hood toward the headlight there will be a lever. pull it up (some have a button thing that you push in while you pull up) after you lift the lever, pull the headlight out from the front.disconnect electrical connector. remove black back cover plate remove and install new bulbs( remember not to touch them). replace in reverse order. hardest part is putting it back it. make sure you align the rails and have lots of patience you will get it!

There's a recall on your issue. Take it to the dealership.
You likely have a defective brake light switch.
