Hi. I have a 1997 BMW 528i Automatic. It was fine when I parked it off. But now does not want to start or even turn. When I turn the key I hear a clicking sound. Please help!!!
That clicking sound is the starter solenoid, starter might be jam or gone bad, while some one hold key to start, hit starter if jam will start, if it don't starter will have to be replace.

Have you tried disconnecting the hot wire from the battery to the starter and cleaning both the connection from battery and on the starter. A toothbrush and water/baking soda?
it could possibly be ur idle valve(air)....if there is a hissing sound when u cut the car off??? spray break cleaner toward the engine block and if the shaking stops its def ur idle valve
if you are referring to the rear end there are two Allen head plugs one right at the rear just above the bolts this is the fill plug and to the right and lower this is the drain plug. and if you are referring to Manual Trans there are two like bolt head plugs one directly on the bottom near the rear is the drain and 3 inches forward on the passenger side up 3 inches is the other which is the fill. it just needs filled until it runs out the top fill hole about 1.9 liters fluid type is MTF LT1
Hi,
I had the same problem with my 1997 528i also. After doing a little research and talking to some mechanics that told me to replace the neutral safety switch located on the side of the transmission. I got the switch from BMW dealer and it cost around $300. After installing it the transmission shifted like new.
It is most likely the immobiliser rather than starter if it does try to start, is it automatic or manual gearbox? If automatic, than try to take the negative cable of the battery and leave for 15-20 minutes without connection, than switch lights on before reconnecting the negative, this resets the computer so it might help. If it is manual, try a push start if the car starts and runs than it is the starter problem, if not than it will be immobiliser problem.
have your charging system checked to make sure alternator is charging to specs, also make sure no light are left on, (trunk light ,glove box mirror light.it sounds like you may have a draw somewhere, may be alternator or something is on, hope this is helpful.
