The gas cap was NOT b/s. A loose cap upsets the evap monitoring within the engine check system. If you have an engine light on there are two options on a OBDII compliant car. 1 The engine light will stay on showing there is a fault that requires attention. 2 The engine light will stay on until the ECU has completed a series of checks over a predetermined period of driving cycles, if the fault is no longer active the engine light will be off when you next start the car after the last successful check. Hope this helps - good luck.

Renault clio fault finder

This may help show if you have a problem - it may even reset the light. With your ignition off, press in the button on the end of your wiper stalk(rt of steering wheel), still holding it pressed in, turn your ignition key but do not start the engine. All the dash lights should come on, a bleep/bell will sound every second, and your speed and revs dials will jump to different places in time with the sound. Press the stalk button once and the amount of fuel should be indicated in the mileage display area eg 25 L. Press it a second time and it will change - I don't know what this is but mine reads 0.0, a third time could be interesting as this indicates where you might have a fault - in one of 4 areas - . If no problem detected then simply four dashes viz - - - -, you might have - - E - for electrical; press it again and you go back to the amount of fuel. Lastly, if you press the mileage select button, this resets (I believe) the fault codes and might also reset your lamp. Everything goes back to normal. Now start your engine and see if the red light is there - turn it off again and repeat the procedure to see if anything has changed. Good luck!

The air bag dash light stays on 2004santafe

Struggled with this problem on our 2005 Santa Fe since new. Wife weighs around 125. Light is sometimes on and sometimes off. Received a recall pertaining to this problem within a year of purchase. Recall called for resetting the algorithm that runs when the engine is started--at least that is what the service rep said.

Returned a 2nd time when this did not correct the intermittent problem. They said everything was working properly. They pointed out that the owner's manual calls for all passengers to be seated before" the engine is started, since that is when the sensing algorithm runs. This is certainly bad design logic. We all have passengers unboard and board while the engine is running. We surely do not turn the engine off each time these boarding events occur.

However, being a professional engineer, I conducted my own test. Sure enough, each time I noticed the light being "off" when my wife was in the passenger seat I pulled over to the side of the road, turned the engine off and restarted. The light went out every time!

Intermittent problems with safety systems are, in my opinion, the worst kind. Given this is integral to the design, I firmly believe the design is faulty. And worse, there is nothing Hyundai service reps can do to remedy the problem.

Best regards,
TF

I need to reset check engine dash light in 2004 deville. dealer has told me what is going on and i choose not to repair at this time. how do i make the check engine light in dash

If the check engine light is on, one of the sensors on the engine are not sending the computer the right signal. And most of the time the sensor is bad. And that is probably what is wrong with your car. So until the sensor is replaced, then you can not reset the check engine light.

Reset change oil light

hello, here is the instructions on how to reset the light

When the system has calculated that oil life has been diminished, it will indicate that an oil change is necessary. A CHANGE ENGINE OIL SOON message will come on. Change the engine oil as soon as possible within the next 600 miles (1000 km). It is possible that, if driving under the best conditions, the oil life may not indicate that an oil change is necessary for over a year. However, the engine oil and filter must be changed at least once a year and at this time the system must be reset.
If the system is ever reset accidentally, change the engine oil at 3000 miles (5000 km) since last oil change.
To reset the Engine Oil Life System, do the following:
  1. Turn the ignition to ON, with the engine off.
  2. Slowly fully press and release the accelerator pedal 3 times within 5 seconds.
  3. The reset is complete when the chimes sound and the CHANGE OIL lamp goes out. If the lamp stays on and no chime is heard, repeat the reset procedure.
  4. Turn the key to OFF.
If the CHANGE OIL lamp comes back on when the vehicle is started, the engine oil life system has not reset. Repeat the procedure.

Service required light flashes 5 times even when the other lights

It looks like your Oil Changhe Reminder needs reset... I get many calls a week for this procedure...
This is really easy! Follow these directions:

Turn the key ON

Look at the odometer, and verify that it displays "ODO" and the total mileage traveled. If it is on "Trip A" or "Trip B", press the black stick next to the odometer to read "ODO", and the total miles traveled.

Turn the key OFF.

Press in, and HOLD the black trip meter reset button, hold it in.
DO not release it.

Turn the key ON

Observe the Odometer display. The total mileage traveled will disappear, and you will see 5 dashes, then 4, then 3, then 2, then 1 dash, and finally, 5 zeros. Then, the total mileage traveled will redisplay.

Release the black trip meter reset stick.

This completes the reset procedure, and it will be back on in 5,000 miles, to remind you of you next oil change.

Hope this helps!
This is an addition to the reset procedure, I apologize for not mentioning it:

You do NOT START the vehicle at any time during the reset procedure.
If the engine starts, the procedure will not reset.

I need a maual for a 2003 Suzuki Limited Edition XL-7

You might be mistaken about the check engine light. I have done all the oil changes on my wife's 2003 XL7 and never once have I had to reset anything. If you mean the SERVICE ENGINE SOON lamp, that means the computer detected a problem with the emission control (or someone didn't put the gas cap back on correctly during the last trip to the gas station). Check the gas cap 1st, just take it off and put it back on, making sure to give it a few "clicks" past the stop. If after a few days the light doesn't go out head over to a suzuki dealership and have your ECS checked out.
