1998 sentra gxe manual transmission. 146,000 miles. when i start to drive, i have a 5 speed, in 1st it is ok, then in 2nd, the car starts to **** and continues through 3rd and 4th gear, then the check engine light blinks on and off, then in 5th gear, not much jerking and check engine light stays on, no blinking. the car has 146,000 miles. then the engine sounds like a fast churpping sound.

You will not believe my answer unless you personally inspect and fix it yourself.

Check the air intake (air inlet) tube.

The air tube between the MASS AIR FLOW (MAF) sensor and the intake manifold has a leak.

When the engine speed up to 15+ miles (2nd gear range) the air gap open wider and cause incorrect air/fuel mixture and cause this bucking condition.

YOU HAVE TO LOOK HARD for this small leak between MAF and intake manifold.

A worn out motor and transmission mounts willl make the condition worst.

A worn out wiring harness to the MAF sensor and bad grounding wire will also cause this condition.

there are codes but you have to have the correct scanner and know how to set the ECM switch to get the data link to read out

You need to have the systems computer tested for fault codes, that is the very 1st thing that needs to be done. If they rebuilt the transmission for $900 they did not replace very many parts or do a through job, the average cost is more like $2500.00

Check your Ignition timing before anything
check your plugs see what color they are
red or orange means carb is to lean , black
or oil means to rich then you can go from there
and set mixture screws on carb , let me no how you make out .
