It's your power brake booster, the seal has broken and loosing air, so when you step on the brakes it's like a vacuum leak, and your engine will run bad, this is a sign that the brake booster is getting ready to go out, and when it does, the brake peddle will get very hard, almost impossible to stop the car, have it replace as soon as possible for safety.

No,it does not, this is the brake booster, witch is leaking, but if it does not effect the engine, and you still can touch the brakes to stop, then you are fine,

It acts like it's going to die when I stop at a light also, could it just be a vacuum leak?

Braking problem

If you hear an air sound when u push on the brake pedal then its usually the master cylinder. If u can't hear air then you either have a leak in one of your brake lines or there is still air in your brake lines. If that's the case then they need to be bleed out.

No braking assist, rushing sound (air escaping)wheng brake pedal applied.

HI this sounds like the vacuum booster has a leak in the diaphragm. That is why you hear that sound when you push on the brake pedal. With out the vacuum to help this leaves you with a very stiff brake pedal. You will need to replace the Booster which is located behind the brake master cylinder and on the firewall. Good luck

Why do i hear air when i press the brake pedal

well, you don't really hear air when you press the brake pedal. You might hear hydraulic fluid going through the valves in the master cylinder, that sounds like air flowing through a vent. But, I assure you, it is not air.

One can press and pump on the pedal when the car is off and hear the 'rush' of fluid which sounds kind of like air rushing out of an inner tube.

It's a common mistake to believe a rush of air is being heard when pushing on the brake pedal.

2001 DeVille: Cad 2001 deville, When I press the brake peddle, I...

thanks for the good information

the air sound AND the hard pedal means you have a brake booster concern

if the car is running ok we can rule out vacuum leaks so that leaves the check valve but with the car running even a check valve wont cause the concern

therefore you need to replace your booster

semi-tough job because you have to remove the master cylinder and typically there may be some push rod adjustments afterward

depending on your level of experience you may want to seek professional assistance

Hard brake pedal hear air leaking when pedal pushed

When you press on the brake? Have your brake vacuum assist checked. It,s that bigspaceship looking thing between the brake master cylinder an firewall. good luck and be safe.

Brake line

it sounds like you still have a leak somewhere if you still hear air from somewhere. Replace the line with a new one and fill the master cylinder, then bleed the brakes. Start with the farthest one away from the master cylinder. An air vaccum bleeder works good for this if you do not have help.
