My mercedes sat for 10 months while I recuperated from injuries. The battery was completely dead. Remote didn't even work. We were able to jumpstart it with battery cables but it won't keep running. Dead as soon as you stop. I put a battery charger on it overnight and drove it off and on for a couple of weeks. Then it sat another 3 months. Same again- dead. Do you think jumpstarting it is not enough and I need to let it charge all night again? Is this normal?

You will burn out your alternator if you keep on doing this. The alternator is not a charger. If you have a dead battery you should always charge it overnight on a charger. To keep the battery fresh all that you have to do is disconnect the terminals.Yes this is normal because the car has clocks and alarms that drain power even when the key is off. If you let the battery set to long while it is drained it will not take a charge.

Yes, you will be able to jump it. Yes, you will need a new battery. Yes, the battery will drain completely - actually, if you have at least an alarm system active , it will completely drain in less than 2 months.

1993 Jaguar xj6 won't start, battery drained of power. Went away over xmas and new years so have not used our 1993 Jaguar xj6 for more than 4 weeks (probably more like 6 weeks!) and battery hence lost all...

Is the car immobilized? if so you may have to lock and unlock the car with the key and not the remote.

Is it turning over or just nothing, also starter motor may be jammed. put the car in gear with the hand brake off and push the car forward until you feel the engine turn over. You dont need the keys in the car!

This should free the starter off, sometimes they jam very tight and will not move at all, on these jags. they get rusty quickly if sat about. I had a XJ many years ago great motors.

Good luck.

Car is completely dead, like somebody shot it dead! No sounds, no light, can't shift out of park into neutral or anything....everything completely dead...no warning whatsoever!

Always clean the battery terminals before jumping. An extremely dead battery may not accept a jump as it serves as a 'buffer" instead of helping. If you do get it started, charge battery with a battery charger then have alternator and battery tested for proper operation and check belt condition and tension as well.

Mercedes-Benz 320clk coupe 2002 with dead battery

Posotive can be found in hood driver side next to fuse box. It is a small rectangle box. You can hook negative to any solid ground on the car.
