X type jag, gearbox fault on dash, runs ok

take it to an accredited auto transmission specialist shop and have the fault codes read then have a proper diagnosis done
The first saves money and the second confirms the codes revealed

check for oil leaks following the flush. Check the fluid level as the level may be at minimum after the torque converter has become full and all the air has been removed. Run fault codes to ensure that the fault light has not come on from an unrelated problem

What is the fault code in the transmission control modules memory, if the light is on the code must be read with a special scan tool through the vehicles diagnostic service port.

SOUND LIKE FAULT IN A WHEEL SPEED SENSOR OR ABS BRAKE UNIT.. BUT HAVE JAGUAR DEALERSHIP CODE SCAN ABS HYDRALIC MODULATOR BRAKE UNIT. SEE WHAT FAULT CODES SHOW UP.

You need to get a diagnostics check, ask mechanic for list of codes you can then check the problem out on http://www.bluejag.co.uk to find the actual problem. Any decent mechanic shoud be able to read the code you don't have to go to Jag

Check your brake fluid level first. If it is fine then you probably have a bad abs brake sensor.

check the ilo in the gearbox and your coils

Replace transmission and sell quickly. I bought 2001 s-type in October 2008. I have not been able to drive it. 1st thing was gearbox fault message which turned out to be transmission. Ford can rebuild cheaper. Next thing to happen was all seals needed replacing. Then all coils needed to be replaced. Coils keep going out. Needs new computer which has 8 year/80000 mile warranty on, but Jag would not honor ($3000). Needless to say my pretty jag sits in the driveway. Had to get another car. Went with Lincoln LS V8. GREAT car!

I have a 2002 X type (2 litre. done 44000 miles), dash showed gear box problem, (red circle light up). I pulled out and turned the engine off. 5 minutes later turned the engine on. The engine running but the car would not drive either in drive or reverse. Turned the engine off again and on the car driving but not much power. The care is taken to the Jag. dealer and told is misfiring + some gear box faults. Suggesting to change some coils and see (cost about £200+). also possible need to change the gear box costing about £2500+. Please advice. Shall I go ahead with the repair? Should I part exchange.
