Blowing brake light fuses 1988 E150. Brake switch

That happened in my 1999 Buicke Century. Replaced the bulb 4 times kept burning out all within a week. Finally replaced the blinker socket and no more issues.

On some models the light switch it defective increasing the volts in the tail and brake circuit.

If you keep blowing the brake fuse than you have a short in the system. Unplug the brake switch. Install a new fuse. If it did not blow than the problem is after the brake switch. Next unplug the turn signal switch, then plug the stop light switch back in and press the brake pedal. Did the fuse blow. If not than the wiring is good in between the two switches. With the turn signal switch disconnected use a jumper wire in between the light green wire (power from the brake switch) and the orange with light blue wire (power to the right brake lamp). If the fuse blows than there is a short in the right side brake circuit between the plug in and the rear socket assembly. If the fuse does not blow than jump from the light green wire to the Light green with orange wire (power to the left brake lamp). If the fuse blows than the problem is in the left hand brake wiring circuit.

Check all the light "sockets" in the back,look for damaged wires, check the wire harness that goes to your tail end door for wire damage, you could try to reseat each bulb and when doing so look for corrosion in the light sockets. other than that,your center break light in back may have a control unit that may be bad and shorting out. you need to test things 1 by 1. good luck!

first thing check all fuses, if ok your problem more likely rear tail lens circuit board where your bulbs push into. the sockets over heat and melt . this is a problem with these trucks from 1988 to 1999

check fuse first, if it is ok check for power at the wire near the bulb
you need to turn the park lights on to test the park lights, if it is brake lights you will need someone to press the brake pedal and hold it while you check for power
I can't see both the bulbs blowing at the same time but check them anyway

could be the brake switch went out of it

The mechanic needs to check again the connection of the brake light to the fuse and the wires . then try checking terminal sockets of the brake light that can also be the problem.if still not working try to look at the sensor .

I would test the brake light switch. maybe its bad

First ensure the bulbs are fine.

Check and replace the fuse in your fuse box.

If it keeps blowing after replacing the brake lights fuse, then there is a short on the wires, you need to check wiring.

If fuse is ok and there is no brake light check wiring to the lights, there is a broken connection or an open wiring to the brake lights.

Note: brake lights are usually not dependent from tail lights, they have separate wiring.
