My 1996 Civic standard, difficult to shift gears.

When I crank my car in the mornings, it will not shift into gear. It is difficult to change gears for a couple of minutes, then as I'm driving it seems to be OK after it is warmed up. If I stop for any length of time, then it is difficult to move the stick into gear. I definitely have the clutch pedal depressed all the way. I appreciate your diagnosis and suggestions.

I double-checked that the all fill reservoirs are full... especially the one that keeps the clutch pedal working... still I have the same problem... difficult to shift into gear.

I have to pump the clutch pedal several times prior to starting the engine,,, so that the shift will move into gear.

You may need to bleed the slave cylinder. If that doesn't work, replace the master cylinder.

VW 1996 Transporter T5 Shifting problems hard shifting when cold but as it warms up it shifts better.

Your fluid is either old or the wrong kind for your transmission. Changing your manual transmission fluid with a higher quality fluid should definitely reduce the difficulty of cold fluid/cold weather shifting. First go to the parts store and find out exactly what kind of fluid your transmission takes. Most manual transmission use gear oil. I recommend using something like Red Line, AMSOIL, or Royal Purple if available. A synthetic will make it even easier to shift. Always check with the manufacturer if you are unsure. I try to stick with the manufacturers recommendations because typically they know what works best with what they've engineered...but sometimes after market fluids can't be outperformed.

!996 that's pretty old school, I don't think that has a shift on the fly feature. Maybe once the hubs are locked in.

My shift bar was on the ground

Starting from inside the car, you have the shift level. This is whatallows you to change gears. This goes through the floor and connects to a shift quadrant. Linkage then runs from the shift quadrant to the transmission by means of shift linkage.

The linkage usually has while plastic balls that help connect the linkage to the top or side of the transmission.

I wonder what source you are using to research these items?
