You may need to look at your exhaust system. If you have a leak, your O2 sensors will send the wrong reading to your engine which will in turn tell your engine to fire differently. Your code will come up reading as a misfired bank. See if you have an exhaust leak first, then see about changing out the O2 sensors behind the leak.

2003 Toyota Highlander has the VSC and Trac Off light on

There is a code in your computer system. This code will turn on your engine light. Once the engine light is on the VSC and/or the Traction light turns on automatically. This is your car turning it off. You have to start with reading a code. The code will tell you what area to look into.
If the code starts with PO3-- it is misfiring and usually a coil or plugs etc..., the next two #'s are which cylinder is causing the tripped code. If it starts with PO4-- it is Evaporative codes part of emissions. Google the code you get and it will get you closer to your diagnosis. Hope this helps.

Engine light on. went to auto parts store, they diagnosed number 2 or 3 cylinder not firing. prior to this i changed plugs and wires. then i changed the coil. the engine light went off and the gas economy...

Hello mikew564.The first diagnosis was number 2 or 3 cylinder not firing. Once you changed the coil, the check engine light went off. When the light came back on again, did you get it diagnosed again to find out if the problem was the same?... 2 or 3 cylinder not firing????

First of all, there is NO extra wire/ground on the coil/ignition wiring (see images below). The spark plugs and ignition plug wiring can be checked for arcing, corrosion, resistance and can be checked for cracks in the insulators or worn electrodes (and spark gap) by a competent mechanic.
If you are having the same issue (2 - 3 misfire), there are several techniques for eliminating the plug wires or spark plugs. Spray water on the plug wires to see if they are arcing. Swap plugs from cylinders 2 & 3 with cylinders 1 & 4. If you still have a 2-3 misfire, check/inspect/examine the coil connector pins & coil harness to the coil(s) themselves.

Lexus 2002 RX300 - What is it when the Trac Off, VSC & Check Engine lights are on and the DTC code says cylynder 1 and 6 misfire

You could have a bad coil pack or a bad fuel injector. swap out the coil packs from the misfiring cylinders and put them in the cylinders that are known to be firing correctly to narrow it down to determine if it is the coil pack first. When is the last time you changed the spark plugs? Pull them out of the misfiring cylinders to check the condition of the plugs.

2006 dodge caravan, 6 cyl. relaced cole, sparkepugs and wires in oct. 2009. Engine is reading #2 cyl. misfire again. Why

Firts time swap spark plug & ignition coil between two different cylinders and read again if the same #2 cyl. misfires !
If #2 cyl. is OK and another cyl. misfires then spark plug or ignition coil is out of order and must be replaced.
If #2 cyl. misfires again then #2 injector must be checked !
If ignition coils & spark plugs (complete set for 6 cyl.) are replaced then you must check #2 injector !
