SOURCE: code p0455 evap emission (large)

have the gas cap tested or just replace it, then disconnect the battery for 5 minutes to reset the code, then drive it for a few miles and see if problem comes back, if it does a trip to the dealer is in order, as this may be covered by your emission warranty which is good for 70,000 miles.

SOURCE: Jeep comes up with EVAP Emission Control System code- please help

YES A CAP FROM THE DEALER WILL MOST LIKELY SOLVE THIS ISSUE...SOME OF THE AFTERMARKET CAPS ARE NOT MADE TO THE PROPER SPECS TO MAINTAIN PROPER PRESSURE/VACUUM ON THE SYSTEM WHEN THE EVAP TEST BY THE COMPUTER OCCURS

Testimonial: "Thank you- I'll try that."

SOURCE: p0455 evap emission control system leak (large) on

EVAP evaporative emissions systems monitoring
This system includes the on-board refueling vapor recovery (OVRV) system with leak detection (LDP) pump.

The ORVR system filters fuel vapor through the EVAP canister to prevent vapor escaping directly into the atmosphere.

The engine Control Module (ECM) determines when appropriate conditions are met and activates the LDP to pump a small amount of air pressure into the fuel tank and lines. The pump runs until a pre-determined pressure or time is reached. If the system does not hold the pressure, a fault or DTC is stored in the ECM.

The area this is located is behind the right plastic rear wheel liner cover. You will see the fuel filler neck from there and the rest of the EVAP system. Visual check for cracks on all the hoses specially the hose clamps. There are 3 lines connected to the Activated charcoal canister (EVAP canister fastened to body) that are detachable and use O-rings for secured sealing. Check if O-rings, if damaged, replace.

P0455 and p0442

p0455-- emission control system ( a large leak ) the most common cause is a bad seal on fuel cap, remove and replace cap, if light stats on. replace cap. if not the cap it could be any where in emission system. p0442 is--same as above. Code p0442 indicates a fuel vapor leak in the EVAP control system. To fix this problem, remove and reinstall the gas cap. Clear the codes and drive to see if the codes reappear. If the code appears again replace the gas cap or inspect the system for cuts or holes in the tube or hose. good-day !

P0449 and P0455 error code 2008 2wd gmc envoy 30,203 miles

P0449 - Evaporative Emission Control System Vent Valve/Solenoid Circuit Malfunction

P0455 - Evaporative Emission Control System Leak Detected (no purge flow or large leak)

Both are refer at EVAP system; other EVAP DTCs: P0440 - P0441 - P0442 - P0443 - P0446 - P0453 - P0455 - P0456

This indicates a fuel vapor leak or lack of purge flow in the EVAP control system. It means a large leak has been detected. The (EVAP) emission control system prevents the escape of fuel vapors from a vehicle's fuel system. Fuel vapors are routed by hoses to a charcoal canister for storage. Later, when the engine is running a purge control valve opens allowing intake vacuum to siphon the fuel vapors into the engine.

Symptoms: You likely won't notice any drivability problems.
Causes: most likely means one or more of the following has happened:
A loose or improperly affixed gas cap
A non-conforming gas cap (i.e. not factory/original brand)
Other leak or damaged piece in EVAP system

Possible Solutions: the most common repair is to:
Remove and reinstall the gas cap, clear the codes, and drive for a day and see if the codes come back.
Otherwise, replace the gas cap, and/or
Inspect the EVAP system for cuts/holes in tubes/hoses (you may hear a vacuum noise or smell fuel), repair if necessary

Hope helps.

My 1999 montero sport has a check engine light that reads P0455 , what does that mean?

well LISACOXFLORE this code is to do with the emissions control ,,, (EGR) exhaust gas return or the MAP sensor (manifold absolute pressure sensor ) it should be a soft code meaning the it wont prevent the vehicle from driving, normally this is caused when the sensors needs to be changed or based on the type of fuel you use causes the cheak light to come on
