My car makes a scrapping and or grinding noise when driving and braking like i'm dragging something it is a Ford Focus SE 2004

check brakes --rear brake shield--recheck hubs

your brake pads are shot and your dragging brake pads, FIX IT FAST AND DONT DRIVE just remove wheel and look brakes over

It sounds like you may have a bearing or CV joint going out. Your vehicle will need to be jacked up and inspected. It may be more than one problem too. Its possible the dragging noise could be something between brake pads and rotor, but the grinding that comes and goes in reference to direction sounds like a bearing or joint. I would take it to a professional right away and ask for an estimate only, and then get other estimates from other shops as well. Good luck to you.

Check your wheel bearings.

Check the front engine mount..If its bad it could make a noise while turning or reverse..Hold the car in gear with your foot on the brake and carefully raise the engine ..do it in both reverse or forward and look for excessive movement..

you most likely need to have your front brakes replace post haste. the grinding noise,does it get worse when you apply the brakes? the grinding noise will be a bad brake rotor and will also make you car pull hard one way or other depending on which brake is worse. recommend highly that you have those brakes looked at. the more you drive it, the worse the problem will be.thank you for choosing fixya.com and please rate my solution thank you!

Sounds like the pads are worn out and are grinding on the rotors. You will likely have to replace the pads and rotors.

Look for a metal tab at the brake. It's only supposed to touch (and make noise) when the brakes are worn down. Sounds like it's bent in too far.

two things can cause this: something stuck in the fan itself or the drive belt also check out the front brake pads cause this will also make a grinding noise
